Bought ECU from an AZer, but cant reflash.

I picked up an M-box not long ago from a member and for whatever reason, I cant reflash it using the EPL software. Says something about a communications error, but when I go to ID the ECU in the flash loader, it just says, "THIS IS THE RAM PROGRAM".

Any thoughts as to why a [supposed to be] stock ECU would give issue?

Could it be chipped? Rather then flashed

Guess I'll have to open it up and see, but seller assured me it came from a stock car, no modifications done to ECU. Weird.

May be bricked, that ID means that it's in programming mode.

    Might need to be booted.

I don't know why it's doing what it is, but if it were my ecu I would try reading it with the Nef software. If that was successful I'd then try writing a stock bin to it. Finally I'd try the Epl flasher if things worked with the Nef program. It almost sounds as though it was unsuccessfully flashed and the flashing application did not close out properly.

I'm probably one of the few people who doesnt know how to use the Nefmoto software. I'll have to check into that, but at least that's a place to start.

you could jump on nefmoto and cruise the forums, im sure there are posts on similar situations, it does sound like its in boot loader mode or bricked or in programming mode, whatever anyone wants to call it. Probably needs some form of a reboot

I'd open it, make sure it isn't chipped.
If it isnt't i'd would load up nefmoto and see if you can do a full read of the ram.
If that doesn't work do what others have said and read nefmoto forums and get it into bootmode so you can reflash it

Does the check engine light and epc light come on when you turn the key to the on position? If not its bricked and has to be bootflashed like phia_dot said.

It is locked in unfinished programming mode, e.g. soft bricked. You might have to get a galletto and require bench flashing. Some Nefmoto'ers can do it for a small fee, it is not an easy thing to do if you're not used to play with electronics as it requires opening it up and putting into programming mode and using bench harness which only dedicated people have...
