    Wheel Rotation

Took my car in for 15K service and saw that my tires were between 3/32' to 5/32' tread depth remaining.

My question is does anyone get their tires rotated and how often as the service did not rotate. I figure Quattro wears out more evenly and that nobody really does it?

I don't get my car for another couple weeks. but unless the sizes are staggered, (wider in rear - I don't think they are, but not sure) I see no reason not to rotate. You still have front wheels that are turning the car in addition to rotating. Also, the bias for power to the ground, the front over the rear will wear the front and rear differently too. Just because it is an all-wheel drive does not mean all 4 wheels pull the load equally.

Dealer didn't rotate my wheels either when I took it in for its 35k service. I did it myself at 30k though.

Talked with my service advisor about why they don't do rotation. He told me that its best to leave the better tires in the back because in an event of an accident, you can control the front wheels and need the tread for the rear traction on the vehicle.

He also told me that the OEM summer performance tires last 20k~ miles or so which is common in all S cars. Guess i have another 5k~ to go and get some PSS.

that makes no sense to me. out cars are FWD biased and you would want the better tires up front.

You would think so. However, even the tire manufacturers say to keep them on the rear. I think the thought process is that most all drivers on the road can somewhat retain control if the front tires lose traction, to a good degree. However most people aren't able to control when the back end loses control.

Oh, I don't have the S3 (just a Quattro A3) but I rotate my tires every 5,000 miles. I still have about 5/32" left on them at 32k miles. I change my oil every 5k also, so it's just easy to do it at the same time.

I'm with wildhareM5. Oil service and rotation every 5k. I also cross rotate the fronts to the rear to help keep wear more even.

Well that is my plan. I will do oil/filter and rotation at the same time, either every 4 or 5K miles. Cheap insurance to keep the internals clean.

It makes sense because the motor is up front and subsequently more weight. There is naturally less weight in the back and those tires will loose traction in wet and snowy conditions first. You want to have the better tires out back because of that reason. It has nothing to do with an accident.
