How long did your stock 19" summer tires last?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Got the 19" summer wheel set up. I've had the car exactly two years and it has 15K miles on it. I have my winter tires on from late Oct/early Nov through March. Summer treads are between 4-6/32s. I'm thinking I need to replace the whole set (major bummer for the wallet since I have some other major expenses coming up). I haven't done any track time. Curious how long your stocks lasted....

Yeah, I poked around a bit and found discussions on different tires, etc. I'll dig around more. I'm still a bit surprised though considering I have my winters on for 5 months out of the year, so these tires probably only have about 8K miles on them.

Same experience. Gotta say, the trade off was that they're extremely grippy.

Does anyone know if the ContiSportContact 5p tires last much longer? I prefer the feel of the contis to the PSS (shock horror!).

15k to 20k range seems typical for most users but aggressive drivers can see a lot less, or conservative drivers up to 25k...all depends on your use.

25k is pretty much the max for any summer performance tire regardless of the car. But I got about 15k out of my Pirelli P Zeros. I think I will try some Hankook Ventus V12 Evo2's next. They've done well on my other car.

They last as long that you can handle the increasing road noise from them.

Wont be buying conti's for my replacements!

Is that about half life? If so, good to know they'll last about 25-30k miles. I swapped to S-04s couple months ago. Stock Conti's lasted just short of 12k miles.

I'd say just under half life left, not sure if they'll make to 25k, I'm hoping to get at 6-8k more out of them or until they roar, lol!

8-13K seems to be the avg the Factory Tires last. They are garage. Noisy and wear uneven and super fast. Just hit up discount tire direct or tire rack. You can find all kinds of tires from 100's a tire to 300 a tire. Just depends on what you want to spend. Personally Im going with Kuhmo or Dunlop for summer tires. I have used them before and loved them and had good luck with them. the PSS are awesome but they are not friendly on the wallet up front.

Only have <2K on mine, but I'm wanting to switch to PSS's at some point. Seems like average is around 10-15k before needing replacement (depending on driving style). On another note PSS @ Tire rack can be had for $238/tire with 70$ Michelin rebate.

The sound started getting annoying on the stock Conti's around 5500 miles for me, and at 7500 miles, it sounded like my Jeep with 37" Nitto Trail Grapplers! The dealership wouldn't pass the state inspection...saying the tires were shot. They looked pretty much like slicks, and I argued that the tires had to be defective to see if they could be covered/prorated under factory warranty. Their response was that maybe I drive too aggressive. Phhhffftt!! Ok sure, I do drive it reasonably spiritedly...but I don't track it or do anything crazy. How could the tires be shot in 7500 miles?

Just swapped my cold weather tires with Michelin Pilot Super Sports today after deciding not worth putting the OEM ContiContact3's back on. After 6,383miles last year and a rotation at 5,000miles one was at 4/32, two at 5/32, and one at 6/32. Absolute waste of money, shame on you Audi.

Odd, mine have about the same mileage, and were also rotated at 5000 and are all about even at 6-7/32. Multiple spirited drives in canyons and deep twisty mountain roads, never had a complaint with them.

I'm at 16k with what looks to be enough for me to make it through summer with them. I could easily do it if I could rotate them but the driver side rear has a slight "hop" to it and it's definitely in the tire not the wheel and I don't want that hop on the front of my car. It would drive me nuts.

I plan on running them until I need new fronts and then I will replace them all with Michelin Pilot Sports.

The Conti's were indeed very grippy, cornering really good. I had to change my driving habits very quickly with the all-seasons I use for winter. If it wasn't for the uneven wear I might have stuck with them this season but the rumble / noise was driving me mad last fall. Also that 4/32 is just too far gone for wet weather for my comfort.....

The PSS's don't seem to tram as much and are quieter. As someone posted earlier tho, they don't seem as responsive as the Conti's at their best. Everything is a compromise I guess, but 6000 miles is just not acceptable for my dd tires.

My stock 19" Contis have 4/32-5/32nds after 3 summers. They are worn perfectly even and the shoulders are not scrubbed (I drive spirited but not harsh). They were getting noisy on the 2nd season and this past season were down right loud. Still have amazing grip. I am getting ready to pull off my winter setup (18" Blizzak LM-60's on Alzor replicas) and go back to my summers. I will likely just take my 19's to the shop prior to install and have a new set of PSS's installed. I figured I will attempt to sell the Contis to someone for super cheap who needs a set of tires for a lease turn in or trade in on CL. I wish Audi went with a better stock 19" tire, while the grip is great the noise after the first 7-8K miles gets to be quite ridiculous.

I have a similar experience when i swapped my OEM Dunlop Sport Maxx GT's for PSS, i actually prefer the qualities and characteristics of the Dunlops over the PSS, the PSS seem softer and mushy in comparison.

That's why I'm going to be upgrading to better contis (sportcontact 5) when the 3s are done. I personally think there's a reason they went with the contis on this car (not just more money for stealerships). The softer compound versus PSS and other options makes for one hell of a grippy tire - everything goes to balls when the tires lose tread (quickly) though. Hopefully the 5 will be much better (I've heard it is).

And to be clear: I mean the contisportcontact 5P, not the regular 5.

The road noise and vibration is terrible! Do you think it's all contis? I had Conti dw's on my previous car and I had no such issues. Looking for an all season tire here up in NJ

Probably DWS if you need some light snow traction. Mich Pilot A/S 3 if you don't need snow.

Thanks. Ya I def need them to perform in a few inches of snow. Had a scare this past winter with the summer tires. The braking was the worst part with them!

Stock Contis- bought it used with 22K.. drove it till 29K.

I put some PSS on.. and hope to get at least 30K out of them. If they don't last for 30, doesn't Michelin give you a prorated warranty rebate of some sort?
