    Strange problem with brake lights

So this has happened twice in the last week or so. I have an 04 S4 Base (about 130k miles), I parked my car outside overnight and when I got back to it in the morning, my brake lights (as well as the third brake light) were on. At first I thought I'd left my lights on, so I looked inside and realized that no I had not left my headlights on. I turned the knob to switch on my headlights and then turned them off again, went around back and saw that my rear lights were still on. That's when I saw the third brake light was lit so I pumped the brake pedal and that's when the lights went out. On both occasions this has happened, it has been relatively cold outside (about 40-45 F which is cold for Texas) so I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem? I have never seen it before, and it hasn't happened (yet) when I've parked in an underground lot overnight. What could it be? Brake switch? I'm posting in the A4 forum as well.

I suggest changing the switch asap. I procrastinated dealing with this issue for a long time, normally I'd notice the lights on at night so I'd tap the brake pedal and that would turn them off. eventually it killed my old battery, so I got a new battery but still didn't change the switch right away since I didn't have much time and that was less urgent, then one time I left the car parked without driving it for a few days and didn't notice that the brake lights were on, and with the healthy new battery those bulbs stayed on long enough to melt and distort the plastic housing around them. had to get new brake lights
