    Transmission Filter...

Purchased a filter replacement kit for my 05 allroad. Everything was relatively smooth sailing until I tried to install the new filter. For whatever reason the seal/neck of the filter does not want to insert into the housing. I wrestled with out for about a half an hour last night and gave up. Lying directly under out, with plenty of room, lubed the seal, and bore with ATF, it just doesn't want to go in.

It is a Meyle filter from Europa parts... Anyone else have an issue like this? I'm going to measure the OD tonight when I get home...

That's crazy. I ordered the ECS kit with the same Meyle filter and my local trans shop told me the same " I fought with it for a while, just wouldn't fit". I thought he may have been feeding me a line of shit. I reached out to ECS and they refunded me the $ back and told me to just keep it. Apparently it wasn't worth returning.
You may want to bring it to Europa's attention, maybe they too would help you out.

I contacted Europa, told him I am going to gather the measurements for him tonight as well as get him the vin number and transmission code to verify everything.

It's extremely close, possibly talking .010" - .020" if that. Pretty much just big enough that it doesn't want to go in.

I bet the trans shop didn't fight with it as long as they stated. I'm sure as soon as they found it wouldn't fit, they pulled one from the shelf and charged me for it. lol! I'm interested to see how ya make out.

Just went out and confirmed, the new Meyle filter seal is .013' - .015" larger in diameter, in comparison to the old seal.

Received another filter today. Same exact measurements as the Meyle filter (which I still have to send back to europa)

Does anyone have access to a new, genuine OEM filter? I'll order one and pay the extra $ if the measurement is the same as the unit that came out of my car. Otherwise i'm not sure which direction to go...

What state are you located in? Why not just go to the local Audi dealer and purchase one?

I'm in N.Y. I tried that. Wound up getting a Hudson filter kit. (Indi shop, but he usually orders oem stuff). Audi kit is 4x the cost, which is what it is, but it'd be nice to get a measurement before I order another filter kit. The Meyle kits are typically problem free and anyone I've talked to had never had an issue.

Ok. I purchased the Blauparts trans service kit that includes the filter and pan gasket, among other things. I called Blauparts and asked them the manufacturer of the filter and they told me Meyle. I performed the trans service this past Saturday and didn't have any problems fitting the filter to the trans. For reference I have an 04 2.7T.

Maybe there is a bad batch of Meyle's running around.

Hmm. How hard did you have to push the filter, in order to get the seal in the valve body bore?

Slightly less pressure than it took to remove it (I'm assuming you removed it?), if you can remember. I took both palms and applied increasing force until it popped right in. I did not have to struggle with it. Have you looked in the filter bore of the trans to make sure the old rubber gasket came out? If it did not, then I can't see how the new filter neck and gasket will fit.

Yeah, the old seal is still on the old filter. I tried again yesterday, putting so much pressure on the bottom side of the filter that it dented a little, and the car suspension travel was moving. It definitely isn't going in there.

Do yourself a favor, return it and buy an OEM one. Meyle sucks IMO. I would not touch any of their products. I have access to filters, just let me know?

maybe post some pictures to show us what you're dealing with? I got the Europaparts kit for the 01L trans and the filter fit in the hole just fine

    Old
    [IMG][/IMG]

    New

    [IMG][/IMG]

New seal, as far as I can push it in without using hammer and punch etc.

    [IMG][/IMG]

I also measured the bore in the valve body, it's 1.127".

I'm coming to the conclusion that the new seal is simply too hard... I'm likely going to order an OEM seal. I'll update after that.

Huh. I thought the C5 Allroad used the same transmission, but I guess there is a difference in the valve-body, and therefore different filter kit.

That "new" seal just looks wrong based on your O.D. measurement

FCPEuro shows OEM filter seal cost almost as much, slightly more actually, as the Meyle KIT does! quality parts come at a premium I guess.

Bought the oem seal. Put it on the Meyle filter and it fit without an issue.
