Audi's are awesome cars but as they get older you probably need to be independently wealthy, drive a Co. car or have the know-how and equipment to work on them yourself. Not so for all makes.
The common oil consumption issues for the car you are looking at, would IMHO require a warranty to cover the potential cost if you were unlucky with your purchase. Its well documented here on AZ.

There's a sticky that details issues that maybe could convince you one way or the other re warranty:
    http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...uestion-Thread
We intending changing over to this model in a couple of years,so interested too.
I have heard of several with the oil consumption issue over here, its by no means resolved, unless you had insider knowledge,go with warranty.

The CPO warranty with my 2009 car saved me probably $8,000; this current car (which I tuned anyway) hasn't missed a beat in the 6 months I owned it. Most cars 2011 and newer are very reliable, but this entirely comes down to your willingness to pay for repairs vs. a higher payment. One thing to factor in is that the only mods the dealer cares about as they relate to warranty (in my experience) are the areas you actually modify (i.e. suspension voids the warranty relating to your suspension only). That said, their computer system is tough about tunes. If you're planning on doing a lot of modding, I would say it isn't worth it to go the CPO route.

Got mine 2011 in Sept. 2014 and have had no issues other than wearing down the pads and rotors (I drive fairly spirited).

As long as you keep up with regular maintenance and services I think you should be fine.

Had CPO when I purchased the car. Very lucky to have it because it covered my oil consumption problem. I believe they had to do stage 1 and then the stage 2 with the piston and rings, they also did the timing belt while they were in there. Looks like that solved the problem cause Im not losing anymore oil. I noticed my Audi side assist isn't working its saying there is a fault. Unfortunately my CPO is done now so who knows how much that's going to cost now.

I bought my car without a warranty in January 2015. Since then, the following has been completed:

Stage I Oil Consumption - April 2015 - covered under extended warranty - 80k miles
Front Wheel bearings - May 2015 - 82k miles - $600 at an indy shop
Intermediate Steering shaft - May 2015 - 82k miles - $500 at an indy shop
Stage II Oil Consumption - June 2015 - covered under extended warranty - 83k miles
Timing Chain and rear main seal (same time as Stage II) - July 2015 - $450 for parts, no labor was charged - 85k miles
Turbo replacement - July or August 2015 - 86k miles - DIY, picked up an OEM turbo with under 20k miles for $500

It was a bit of a rough first year for me, but honestly a warranty wouldn't have covered all of this. Just be aware of what you could be getting into.

Best bet is to have a warranty, but if you don't just know that you could have some very expensive repairs. The newer the car the better chance of better reliably...

I just bought my 2012 A4 CPO. CPO covered till 160 or 2018 whichever comes first. Then I purchased Audi Aftercare till 200k or until 2023. With owning the car for only 2 weeks, I've managed to get two blower motors replaced, a set of rotors and pads in the rear, a reset of the adaptive system so the car will learn how I drive rather than drive how the previous owner drove. The warranty allowed me to have an Audi loaner car at no cost. They also updated the car software and the MMI software. Somehow I was able to get a free air filter and cabin air filter, which I'll be installing on my own.

Some may say oh the car come with issues, I say the car come beyond covered. I'm quite happy thus far. The service advisor I dealt with said my dealership is mod friendly, just no ecu flashing. Advised me to get a piggy back tune so it doesn't actually flash the ecu.

You should have looked into the dealer for the turbo. They extended factory warrenty until 190km turbo and injectors. At least in Canada they did.

I would never buy a B8 without warranty if its original pistons and turbo haven't been replaced, no matter the mileage. The rest is reasonably affordable to get done at an indie.

I tried that route first, but with no luck. I have one dealer to work with in approximately a 75 mile radius, but they aren't always helpful. They were very helpful with the Stage I and II oil consumption fixes, and went to bat for me even when my oil light did not come back on, but no luck with the turbo or through AoA for the turbo, so I did it myself. I am honestly happy that I ended up doing it myself, because it gave me a bunch of confidence in my ability, as well as in the reliability of the AZ community. I am certainly not mechanically illiterate, but I'm certainly not a mechanic either. I did a bunch of time observing/reading on this forum prior to buying my car, and knew that I would end up doing as much maintenance as possible, so I felt that I was pretty well prepared and knew that I would find myself in a spot like this at some point.

I bought mine with a aftermarket warranty. It covered the high pressure fuel pump, the rear main was replaced, one right rear door latch, front stabilizer end links, timing chain and associated parts, a blower motor, sure there is more, and it got me a new Audi for a loaner at the Audi dealer. Most of this is while the car was APR Stage II. My warranty paid for itself. I wouldn't buy one of these without a warranty. My dealer was cool about any of my mods though. That matters more than you can know when worrying about what will be covered. They even had it one time after it was lowered too. Never had a issue with any changes I made and never tried to tell me my mods caused a issue or tell my warranty company the car was modded either.

Bought my B8 A4 with no warranty....just expired. Previous and original owner had stg1&2 oil consumption tests done and Audi replaced a rings, seals, water pump and something else at no cost to him. He drove it 10k before he sold it to me, and now I've driven it about 10k and zero problems.

You just need to know the trouble spots before buying and do research/ask questions. Having a trustworthy mechanic never hurts either.

    Good luck

if you're financing it for any period of time. I suggest having either the CPO or Audi After Care warranties in place for the length of your term. Worry free term, once the car is paid off and officially yours do what you want. Nothing hurts more than having to pay for a car monthly that has major problems you can't afford to fix or always shelling out money to fix.

    Good luck

I bought a used S4 from an Audi Dealer.....I told him to drop the CPO warrantee and the price......he did.

If you can work on cars yourself, and don't have a S-Tronic/DSG, you don't need the CPO warrantee.

Try to get the car before 4/17, that way you can come to our meet before Caffeine and Carburetors in New Canaan and we can give you a massive list of mod ideas to do.

Maybe we'd let you join with your current car, but I can't confirm without knowing what it is...

I actually live in Trumbull for now, likely moving to Norwalk in the fall. The show is in New Canaan, though, and it's worth the trip in whatever vehicle you have.

I'll PM you as it gets closer if you're interested in meeting up with everyone. There will also be a meet thread in the Tri-state Regional section.

I'll PM you as it gets closer if you're interested in meeting up with everyone. There will also be a meet thread in the Tri-state Regional section.

I purchased my warranty at the point of sale. I haggled on the price of the warranty. I got 5year/40k KMS, CPO finishes 160k KM/2018. Platinum the best level you can buy, 2600$ CAD... $4000 USD is outrageous, but you're buying it AFTER buying the car, the cost of the warranty goes up. The car has more ware and tare on it now than it did when you picked it up initially. So the premium obviously goes up. If you can afford it, buy it now rather than waiting. But may is a month away... Haggle on it, you might not have much of a leg to stand on now as you did when you first bought the car. I wouldn't close the deal on my car until my bi weekly payments were what I wanted, they want commission, so in reality they work for me.

As for what is covered, everything minus normal ware and tear items. BUT I just got free rotors and pads installed this week, that is a ware and tear item and they covered it, without charging me the $100CAD deductible. If you'd like I can take a picture or scan my Audi After Care brouchoer of all the items it covers.

If you can work on cars yourself, and don't have a S-Tronic/DSG, you don't need the CPO warrantee.
I can work on cars, but I would never drop a warranty to save money up front that'll save me money in the long run. Unless you're perfectly fine not fixing or getting something replaced completely free from one of Audi's service campaigns.. There is about 10 pages long worth of service bulletins alone for the 2012 A4. All those items with my warranty they're entitled to fix.

Yeah Stamford is insane, you're looking at $1800/mo minimum for a nice place. Norwalk isn't that far off, tbh, but they're a bit cheaper and usually larger places as well.

When are you looking to get a B8.5, and (if you don't mind) what's your budget? We love playing the "find good cars for sale" game around here. If you want to start a round of the game, just give us the specifics and let us know if you want an auto or manual.

Anyone here buy their car without a warranty?

I don't have a budget..........I almost died in summer of 2015. Big lawsuit, message me if you want the details lol. I currently have to use a walker to get around.

I don't wanna be a fool and blow thru money. I was going to get an s4 but thought about it and got involved in this forum. Thinking about going back to school also. I was looking at Norwalk Community College website the other day.

If you are not familiar with German luxury cars, do not buy one without a warranty. Period. These aren't Hondas, or VW's. When the shit hits the fan, it gets expensive. And the shit is always flying, it's just the matter of time that it actually hits the fan.

Yes I made up my mind I'm going for warranty. eBay Motors had me very tempted to say screw one.

I'm getting one for my recent pick up 2011 Avant, it's a 4 years or 50k for $4.5k from Audi here in Houston (I didn't buy the car from them).

***It costs significantly more than what you'd pay for it at point of sale***

I paid nothing close to $4000 or $4.5K USD for my extended warranty. $2600 CAD. Be smart and opt for the warranty, and haggle. Sales is sales regardless on which end you're on, seller/buyer.

I found your car! CPO, manual, sport package, with nav, right near you. It isn't even too expensive. You can even go look at it today and buy it before the meet.

Not really, at the point of sales i was offered $5700 for 5 years and can be included on the loan but I refused. This time the Audi dealer I'm going to is offering 0% finance for 18 months which not bad at all.
