    Advice on Water meth injection

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I am looking for some advice from folks that are currently running this type of setup(see next paragraph). I cannot find much research online on this topic related to the 2.7t.

I was told by one of the giac dealers that I could run meth in place of the 100 octane. I am really interested in the 93 and 100 octane files. The idea of being able to switch off the 100 octane file (wmi) is quite attractive. I can totally see myself going on a long trip and just not wanting to worry about having to refill my meth reservoir. I would totally go e85 but the closest one to my house is 25 miles and is just not practical.

Is anyone running 93 octane and meth in place of a race gas file? Does it run pretty smoothly (from idle to normal driving to WOT)? What WMI systems are you running and which part of the charge are you spraying in? What ratio WM do you run?

    Thanks in advance

    Shawn

... I think you're getting ahead of yourself. I ran a 100 tune on 93+meth. Going on a long trip wouldnt make you drain the tank unless you were flogging it the whole time. I'm running a 5L tank in my car and I might fill it once every few weeks, even driving it hard.

If you're really concerned, get a few gallon jug or something to keep some extra in the trunk. I also did that. The meth would have to be set up, like an HFS-3 system, an then dialed in with the tune. The meth would really only be sprayed under full load anyhow (or a boost threshold.) It should run really smooth, most tap into the bipipes, and mixture depends on how the car is tuned. I run straight 100%, personally.

I would skip the GIAC and go with a custom tune for meth. If you're worried about longevity of the tank, use smaller nozzles and tune less aggressively for it. I run 50/50 denatured alcohol out of a Devil's own kit with #7 nozzles. If I were doing it again, I'd probably get the HFS kit with some safeguards. Either way, get a wideband so you can always keep an eye on A/F.

I tried this with APR’s tunes and did not find the result with 93+wmi to be close to that on 100 octane gasoline. That may have been attributable to the tune.

Are you saying that the 93+meth just didn't see the same amount of gains compared to using 100 octane on the 100oct file? Or that since the 93+meth wasn't a good replacement for 100 octane that it didn't run that well? Or both?

I know you all are saying to go the custom tune route but I just like the idea of being able to easily switch to a tune that I know runs well with the current hardware. This recently happened to me when I purchased this stage 3 car a couple of months ago. It had a bad idle misfire that only after swapping tunes/fueling that I could pinpoint that the problem was one or multiple components in the tune/fueling. I swapped to an awe tune with different injectors and it ran much better.

Much happier with the setup now but with it getting warmer outside I miss the power you could feel when it was really cold out. Hoping to make up for that with a little meth.

Thanks for everyone's input. Much appreciated

2.5 gallon tank, I refill it about once a month and I'm running 2 d07 nozzles.

When I was tuning and running it hard all the time I could get about 2 weeks out of it.

Whatever you do, mount the pump in the trunk, lower than the reservoir. I already killed a pump under the hood.

Also, I like 100% methanol. I can squeeze about 3* more out of my setup while still keeping CF's at a minimum (3-4*) vs 50/50.

Nozzles are mounted on SRM pipes. Make sure you put a check valve at each nozzle, I was getting audible detonation on WOT after cruising for a while from the lines emptying out when I had a single check before the Y.

    Diesel,

Clean install in the trunk. I like it!

When you say you can squeeze 3* more, are you referring to timing?

What tune do you run? What WMI setup do you run?

Any other pics of your setup (trunk and engine)?

Running lines through the car or routed near brake lines?

    Thanks

That looks like a pain to fill.

I have basically the same tank set up with the pump underneath. The only issue I mounted the low tank sensor too high and have to refill the tank when it's about 1/4 full but I love it. I fill it up about every other month.

That's two ways of describing the same outcome. 93+wmi did not perform as well as 100 octane fuel when using a 100 octane tune. I had better results with a 93 octane tune that was adjusted to take advantage of wmi than I did trying to use a 100 octane targeted tune with 93+wmi.
