    "Future Volkswagen Vehicle Support

For now we are excited to announce support for the MK6 VW GTI (2010 – 2014). Next, we will be working on support for the MK7 GTI (2015 – current), then DSG tuning, followed by additional vehicle support. We will also be adding COBB Custom Features along the way such as brake boosting, custom launch control, and more. Let us know what you want and we can see if it’s possible! For feature requests, additional vehicle support, or really anything you can think of – just shoot us an email at [email protected] or submit a support request via our website Support section."

they announced the MK6. they will also have the DSG tuning later on.
"we will be able to actually tune the car ourselves"
no more the over the shelf maps the standard for VAG

so this looks pretty positive for the audi s3 line up.

    The previous news was MK6.

But from what I've heard, Cobb tunes are fairly mediocre. I don't get the hype.

its not their tune I care about, its the fact I can strap it down on a dyno and tune it to my car's spec. this seems to be a new concept in the VW and audi world. its not an over the shelf map only system. they are selling the actual hardware and software to allow us to go and get our cars tuned. watch and listen to the first video I posted.

It has been out that they will support both. It's not the tune from Cobb everybody wants. It's the fact that it's so easy to get a pro tune and flash back to stock on the road anywhere at anytime. No need for internet connection. It really is a sweet setup.

This is how i tuned my 500whp WRX and many many others along with EVOs and GTR's the user controls are very good and very easy. You can also unmarry and use on a new car if you get one that is supported. I will be all over this. Keep in mind though it does leave some traces of ECU work. SOA was always pulling the ECU's and checking when the shit hypercast pistons would blow a ringland.

You can see it in the check sum, we have replaces dozens of motor because SOA denied warranty rebuilds

I didn't know there were so many pro DIY tuners out there. Isn't this what Eurodyne has been doing for a while now?

Cobb opens the map for basically any tuner that has and knows cobbs software to tune the car, not just the companies that release a flash. they also offer map switching on the FLY, changing maps while driving is a great feature and the ability to have multiple maps at your finger tips. Not only that it provides any and all information about the car on the screen, boost, oil pressure, oil temperature intake temps, waste gate duty cycle. Plus the fact that you can catalog and send your log to your tuner so they can make adjustments and send it back to you.

thank you for posting the insightful thought with your blanket statement.

can you please post up the list of actual "at home tuners" that have blown up their cars with the cobb units.

Listen, you're missing the point. Cobb is awesome. Having it on the MK7 platform is also awesome. The flexibility is awesome.. But when you give people at home the ability to manipulate variables in a tune you can lead to somewhat disastrous results. Although purely at fault of the 'at home tuner'.. I've known multiple people who have created their own custom tunes and blown up motors and turbos using Cobb. It's not Cobb' s fault, it's the fault of the person who buys it and doesn't know what they're doing.

I just asked someone at Cobb if the mk7 version when it's available will be compatible on an a3 with the IS38 turbo. His reply was the mk7 tune will only be available for the GTI and they hope to make one available for the audi but it's not looking like anytime soon. I thought these cars were identical when it comes to engines and ecu's. The email response from Cobb seemed to imply the software for an audi differs from the VW. Can someone tell me if the audi and GTI mk7 use different tunes, I'm a little mixed up.

I certainly get the at home custom tuning to those who know what they are doing. But that concept really stops at the MK6. The MK7 Simos ECU is an entirely different animal in itself.

I asked this question to the Cobb ppl and this is the exact email response.

"Engine management, or more significantly the security protocols of the ECU for these different vehicles, are different. *When the Mk7 GTI Accessport is released, it will not be able to communicate or install with your ECU. *APR develops separate flashes for these different vehicles."

I guess I'm sticking with apr for now.
