Greetings R8 guys. We tend to spend most of our time with the S4/S3 crowd but we had an R8 V10 come in for an ESS supercharger kit so I thought I would dump some photos of the install and my opinions!
The quality of the kit is very strong. There were a few vague instructions but ESS was always readily available to help and answer any questions!
We start at the beginning! The blower was much heavier then we expected! I did not weigh it but I would not be surprised if it was 50 plus pounds!
We opted for the unbolt the engine and hoist it back about 5 inches instead of removing it comepletely option
The R8 front end naked!
The intake manifold is removed and a few valves are rerouted so that you can mount the supercharger bracket!
Test fitting the supercharger!
Routing the coolant lines and new coolant resevoir and pump. Lines are routed through the driveshaft tunnel to the new cooler on the front end.
New front mount radiator for the supercharger cooling system mounts in front of the existing cooler.
Mounting the Supercharger pulley brackets and alternator extension pulley. There is very little room and the bracket and belt assembly must be installed with the engine pulled back.
Some engine bay shots
All finished up and ready for delivery!
Driving impressions. This is a very fast vehicle! Customer had before dyno runs done and I will update with the after for gains. I have owned modified 991 turbo S and GT-Rs and this feels right up there. I like how the power is readily available in any situation. First goes by almost faster then the tach can register it. The customer plans on taking the car out to the race track this weekend and I think he will have a blast!
Feel free to ask any questions about the kit or install and if you are local you can stop by. We will be bringing the car out to Cars and Coffee Dallas next month!
