Replacement Tires for 2013 S7 - Need some advice

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I need new shoes for my 2013 S7 with 20" rims and there are no Michelin Pilot Super Sports available in the OEM size 265/35R20. I am told there will be new production by Michelin for at least a few weeks, which means I could be waiting 6-10 weeks to get them. However, there are Michelin Pilot Super Sports available in 275/35R20 that I can get immediately. So my questions for all of you are:

    1) Will the 275s fit without a problem?
    2) Will there be a noticeable difference in how they perform and the car handles with them?
    3) What are the downsides of the bigger size tire? Will MPG be reduced? If so, noticeably or immaterially?
    4) Is there any reason to think that the 275s will be any less or more available than 265s if I need a replacement tire? I wouldn't think so, given that I couldn't get a 265 right now even if I really needed just one, so perhaps 275s will tend to be in greater supply.

    Thanks in advance!

1- the RS7 runs 275s so you'll have no issues fiting 275s on your S7
2- 10mm width difference with an aspect ratio of 35 with be negligible unless your name is Mario Andretti
3- you're running a taller tire which will also have a taller sidewall, plus, your speedo will be off .7mph,
4- you're overthinking the tire situation, you own a S7, enjoy it without worrying about what tire you'll need down the line

    Just my .02 cents.

I've been told mid April for the PSS to come back available if you can wait. Already prepaid for my 285/30/21s so hope I'm right!

Rob, are you dead set on the Michelin Pilot Sports? There are other choices that will offer similar range of performance such as Conti Sport Contact 5P and Dunlop SportMaxx GT that have tires available in the size you need.

The MPSS are worth waiting for or switching sizes for. If it were me I would wait it out until the right ones are available, but I can drive something else if needed. The 275/35 is a good option.

FWIW I was faced with the same issue on another car. I decided to wait, it took maybe 8 weeks, and I was glad I did.

I love this forum/community - everyone is so responsive and knowledgeable! Thank you all for your responses - they were very helpful.

I have considered other tire brands/models, but have owned just about every one of them in the past and the Michelin PSS have performed best for me and provide a solid tread wear warranty, so I want to stick with them. I am getting rid of the OEM Dunlop SportMaxx GTs, which only provided me with 14,000 miles - just not good enough.

One of the guys at AudiWorld's S7 site suggested checking with local BMW dealerships for 265 availability and sure enough, my local dealership has 6 in stock. Of course, their pricing is much higher than the independent tire shops, but they are running a deal to buy 3 and get 1 free, so the pricing is only $130 more for the set of 4 and they provide a loaner. So I'm going to get the 265s to keep the set-up the same - I've liked it so far.

    Thanks again!

I run Michelin AS3 on my S6. I drive it hard at times on the street but never on the track I've noticed almost no difference from the Pirelli's other than 1/2 the price.

Guys - looks like most live in warmer climates, but for those that live in cooler climates, I'm not 100% sold on PSS. I have a CTS-V Cadillac and a C7 Covette with PSSs. The Caddy is fair in cool weather and the Corvette is downright awful in terms of grip - even in 50 degree weather. I think those must be a different compound than the CTS-V PSSs - they are a little better. Anyway, my S7 has the 21" black optic package - and Continental tires. They are MUCH better in cooler weather and rain than the PSS. If I lived in AZ - PSS all the way. But I'm in Ohio - so PSS is great for about 4 or 5 months a year and that's it!
