Apparently my HRE wheels were clear coated with a batch of clear coat that was not to spec and created a little bit of pitting around the center caps. Let me clarify that the clear coat pitted, not the forged aluminum. HRE, being the stand up company that they are, are refinishing the wheels for me at no cost under warranty. My dealer Wheels Boutique has also been very helpful being the liaison between myself and HRE.
So essentially I'm getting brand new wheels back from them when they are done. They didn't have any curb rash on them as I've meticulously cared for them, but now the finish will be new as well.
This brings me to a cross roads. What do I do? I'm thinking about keeping them, but I'm also thinking about perhaps selling the car (an itch I get every 6 months or so, but never follow through with it). My questions is, what are HRE wheels going for on the resale market? This is a special resale case because they are coming back new from the factory. They are HRE P47SC forged aluminum monoblock in 21" x 9.5". The rears are cut with more concave then the fronts to give the car the staggered wheel look despite being square all the way around for quattro performance and warranty issues. They currently have a brand new set of Hankook 275/30/21 tires just installed a month ago which fill the rim better then the 265 Michelin PSS which had a bit of stretch. Not sure if I'll keep the tires or sell as a set. Please help a confused individual with how much these could sell for.
I have some time to think about it as the wheels take about a month of travel and refinish time before I have them back. See pics below:
