Recently got some work done, now burning oil like crazy

    Hi

Last week I got the APR stage 2 tune done with the CTS Turbo high flow cat. Since then I have driven about 1000km (621 miles) and have gone through 4/5 quart of oil! I can also smell gas when I get out of my car, not enough to clear out a underground parking lot, but enough that you would certainly smell it if you were my passenger. I thought that was because of the HFC, but maybe it's related to my consumption, so I thought I would mention it.

I have a 2010 A4 with 145k Km (90k miles) and always had my car serviced at the dealer until my warranty ran out last month. My oil consumption has been about 2 quarts every 15k KM which is fine IMO, but it basically started consuming tons of oil overnight when I had this work done. I should also add that 2 months ago my oil separator hose had a leak causing a low oil pressure warning, as part of the work Audi did, they also did a oil pressure test and said that the test results were great and my car was in excellent shape.

When I did the stage 2 and HFC, I also did an oil change where they used liqui moli 5w40, I have read that liqui moly was really good so I thought that was a good idea. Up until then, I have just been using the Castrol that the dealer uses.

I know that many of our cars have been plagued with oil consumption issues, but I haven't come across anyone have it onset so quickly, and after 6 years of being a non-oil sucker. I also haven't found many people complain that after they did APR stage 2, the oil consumption changed so quickly.

Please any help would be greatly appreciated.

With the mods you've done it could be tough having Audi Canada cover an oil consumption fix, but my 2009 A4 didn't show signs of the oil consumption issue until I was at 140KKms. Youi may want to do another oil change going back to Castrol to see if that had anything to do with it, but doubtful. I would go back to the shop that did the tune to see what they say.....

might be worth removing the cat and flashing back to stock (not stock mode) and seeing if you are still burning oil. since you will basically be back to a stock car after that, you will *likely* be able to take it in for the oil consumption without issue.

cost of going back to stock and getting the consumption fixed done under the extended warranty are worth it if in fact you need to have the pistons and rings work done for the fix.

The HFC is going to cause the gas smell. It's cleaning up the exhaust air less, so there will be more fumes.

Might be the oil itself causing higher consumption. Before taking the HFC and tune off, swap back to the old oil and see what the results are. One last thing, with stage 2, I'd guess you are driving the car harder than before.
