    Hi,
my breaks make a grinding noise, dealer has quoted $1000 to replace front pads and rotors. Is this a legit quote? Are there any mechanics in the area you'd recommend as an alternative? I live in Berkeley

    thanks

Not a legit quote at all. Buy your own rotors and pads from brakeperformance.com (get in touch with Athena) and get them installed for less than $200. Total cost should not exceed $400. Not sure about east bay, but 034Motorsports in fremont or Sprint autoworks in San jose will do the job for you.

I use Griffin Motorwerke in Berkeley for all my non-warranty work. Highly recommended. They are an Audi Club sponsor and are active in the track scene. Talk to Curly about your brakes. He'll get you hooked up.

thanks everyone, should I opt for stock/OEM or get "upgraded" rotors. I don't track my car but see triple digit speeds regularly :)

no need for "upgraded" rotors, OEM brakes stops the car just fine.

what's you take on stoptech slotted rotors ? they are cheaper at $175 each vs. OEM $275 each. are they as good/reliable as the OEM ?
