    New A4 Owner

    What's up guys?

New here, just picked up an 04 A4 quattro this weekend. Been browsing for a few months just to see common issues with these cars.

Anyway, car is pretty clean, just has a few issues that I wanted to ask about.

First off, the car doesn't have the owners manual(s), so it's taking me a while to figure everything out. Is there a way to order them? I'm sure Audi can do it, but I have a feeling I'll be paying a pretty good amount for a couple books, lol.

Also, I used to have a BMW and I used realoem.com for diagrams and part numbers, is there an Audi equivalent?

And probably a dumb question but how do I turn the fog lights on? I flew from southern California to northern California to buy the car, and on the 14 hour drive back it was pretty foggy on a twisty one lane road. Would have been nice to have some fogs. I tried turning the switch to the left but it didn't turn that way.

I think that's all for now.

    Thanks guys!

Hmm, don't see an edit button on my phone, so guess I'll just add this here.

The car currently has 124k on it, Carfax shows the timing belt was done in 2012 when it had 88k miles. I don't really want to drive this thing too much because I don't wanna destroy the engine. What's the recommended timing belt interval for this engine?

Owners manuals are often foe sale for about $20.

For part numbers several vendor websites are useful. ECS Tuning for part numbers and GenuineAudiParts.com for part numbers and diagrams.

To turn on the fogs, turn the headlight knob on then pull it out once. Pulling it out a second 'click' will turn on the rear fog light.

Timing belts should be replaced every 60k-80k miles. If you dont have documented roof that quality parts were used Iv would replace the belt, tensioner, water pump, etc.

Check under the steering wheel for the manual. The dealer told me mine didn't have a manual, but it was there in a little cubby. The same thing happened to my cousin and he found the original window sticker in the manual. My Carfax said the TB was done at 76k and I'm waiting for the weather to do it again now at 140k and I haven't had any issues.

Ha, never thought to pull on the knob. Thanks.

And I didn't even know about the little cubby under the wheel, thanks. No luck, though. I guess I'll have to call Audi and have em order em for me.

    Thanks guys.

Well that sucks. Let me try to resource the link.

Edit: Well Im able to find the link on vwvortex. From what i remember I was able to open the link in browser. But some people are saying if that does not work you need to download the .pdf and open in adobe. There are probably better options at this point.

Do you have a 1.8T or a 3.0? If you have a 1.8 the typical things that fail in the mileage range of your car are suction jet pump, pcv system is probably brittle, and the rear coolant flange on the back of the block by the firewall. The coolant flange is by far one of the most pain in the ass repairs but it's doable. definitely take texasboy's advice and find out which parts were used on the timing job. Certain water pumps have been know to take an early dump. Best of luck!

Jesse500, PM box is full. My address should be in the PayPal email, though.

Iyates1987, it's an 04 3.0 quattro 6 speed. Seems like pcv is a common problem that wreaked havoc on early model 3.0's

Lol, yeah that was a requirement for me. Got tired of driving an automatic after a couple years and started looking for a manual sedan. The A4 was pretty much the only thing that fit my requirements. The only thing I don't like about the car is the fact that I have another car that uses a timing belt instead of a chain, but oh well.

Everything else about the car is awesome, and way better than my last one.

and this thread has ran out of gas. I just wanted to tell people about my experience I had 2 nights ago and felt like sharing it with my fellow B6'ers. And I thank the people who didn't hate."

Yeah, there were a couple times on the way back to socal that it would have been nice to have an automatic because of the traffic. Luckily there's no traffic to/from work because of the hours I work.

Definitely loving this car, it rides better than my Taurus, closing doors sound more solid, no rattles. All in all, just much higher quality.

Man, the mobile layout sucks or something. No option to edit posts, and I can't even find the option to PM people.

    :/
