My baby is over 101k. No warm or cold rattle but I got the Jhm intermediate kit and would like to install for piece of mind. Also got ceramic coated v2 headers to throw on To feed the soul. Any audiziners in the Colorado area willing to help with timing kit refresh and header install for compensation? I live in the co springs if it matters.

It is a cool project. I did it with help from the mechanic who sold me the s4.

Tools , a clean work space ( lift recommended) and lots of time.
Oh and alcohol lots of alcohol for when things don't go right.....

Try posting in the regional section. One user comes to mind -- not sure if he is still in Colorado...

I wish I could, did mine by myself on jackstands, all you need is beer and positive attitude. ah, and tools. I feel it was significantly quicker than pulling the engine on my b5s4.

I am in the same boat. My engine is out, just put fresh heads on it, have the JHM kit, and is partially together.

Rather than just winging it, for piece of mind I would rather find someone experienced time the cams. Willing to pony up some good bucks for very little work.

    Located just outside of Boulder.

Timing is actually very easy if you have the tools and instructions. It was the thing I was most afraid of and it ended up being easier then removing my control arms (which turned out to be the shittiest part of my whole project). You just have to tighten your bolts correctly (absolutely critical)... You do have the timing tools, right? They are the only thing that matters in order to set timing. You need the Cam Tool, the two horizontal bars, two shims and the crank pin. With these, you just follow the instructions in order, and the timing basically sets itself.

It also helps to know what the three seashells are for... heh.

Yeah I've done the Jhm manifold and a few other easier things with a couple friends but am a bit leery of this job... I'm not opposed to getting dirty or having it garaged for a couple weeks, I just want to make sure it's done right, and this would be my first engine pull.

When I did mine I had the lower guide damage per usual. It was separated in three pieces however it was still intact. That's the only noticeable damage I saw. I was able to re use my mechanical adjusters and all. This was at 129k miles. Reason I did the timing is because my driver side electrical adjuster solenoid had failed so I pulled it did the timing among other things and replaced the adjuster solenoid. Everything else looked great. While I was in there I pulled the heads and replaced the valve stem seals and head gaskets along with head bolts.
