    Jhm shifter review b8 s5

I finally had the time to get my JHM SS installed in my S5...it completely changed the car for me! The piece is honestly amazing. Short and crisp. I love my S5, but my only issue was how bad the stock shifter was.

It took the tech a little over an hour to install. My tip is to make sure you tape off some of your surroundings so they don't get scratched. Also, have them let you try the feel of the spring and the throw distance before they fully assemble it back together, in case you need to make adjustments.

I can go on and on, but just rest assured that this little piece, will make your driving experience that must more enjoyable. The shifting itself is so much more precise. It takes a few moments to get used to, as the gears feel closer together. I initially had 1st and reverse feeling too close, but once I figured out where all the gears were... Whoa!

This is actually my second JHM SS. I had it on my B6 S4, and glad I picked it up again.

    Keep it up JHM!

I love my JHM SS as well. Comparing my JHM SS to a stock shifter in a friend's S5 it's night and day different. Hers feels like you're shifting a semi truck.

I also have mine paired with a BFI weighted knob. Shifts are very crisp and authoritative now.

Only downfall is that I can definitely feel the sloppy shift rod now. Guess I'll upgrade to the JHM spherical end shift rod when the new clutch goes in to prepare for the blower.

Congrats on the shift, the stock shifter is indeed terrible. I just recently got the EuroCode short shifter installed, and it seems a little... stiff... I'm not sure if that's the right word to use. I was told by the installer that it would need to be worn in, and in fact it is starting to feel better. Still way better than stock. Is this something you experience as well? A break-in period of sorts?

@naiveturtle haha I said the same thing about it shifting like a semi! Lol

I considered a weighted knob, noticeable difference?

I'll have to keep up on your build, blower?! Nice!

@lordmagnet I actually purchased this one from another forum member so I can't speak to a break in period. I did have a new one in my S4 and didn't experience any stiffness that I recall. The shifter takes a little getting used to for sure.

I'm not sure I notice a huge difference. However I did the shifter and the knob at the same time. If anything the BFI knob looks way better.

Yeah, a blower will be coming. Hopefully within the year. Just bought a house so I'm tapped out and have to start saving again.
