Lightbulb Bosch 404 vs. Stock Fuel pump questions....

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Ok so it looks like my fuel pump is failing.. So taking it in for fuel pump replacement and fuel filter (while their there).. From what I've read, stock pump has a max flow rate of 50 gph and my choice for replacement/upgrade, the Bosch 040 has a flow rate of 62 gph which can support up to 521 hp...

I was wondering those that have upgraded their fuel pumps and would their be any noticeable difference with my current set up??

Obviously, it'll be ready for stg3 when I decide to pull that trigger..

Thoughts, ideas, input from any of you technical guys in the group would be appreciated...

040 is not a good choice anymore. Go with dw301 or similar pump, cheap, reliable, easier to install and flows far more than stage3 will ever need.

I agree bosch pumps are old and loud. There are much better choices out there. Aeromotive , AEM or Deatschwerks. Especially if you want to run E85. Walbro 450 E85 specific pump is great too, not sure if it would fit, since it is a bit bigger.

Walbro 450 is not a good choice for stock unmodified supply ssytem + rails since it will heavily peg the FPR leading to low load/idle fule pressure problems. It supplies too much fuel for low pressure side of FPR to return it to tank without pressure spike on low pressure side leading to supply side floor pressure of about 4 bars. You also need to upgrade wiring to Wlbro 400/450 since it takes some majors amp and you will burn your wires out with time.

Anything extra needed for the dw300 or dw301?

I have mine wired in exactly like stock...no issues so far but I'm going to check out the wiring when it gets warmer
now that you mention it, your right. the 485 pump has sealed wiring connections with the plug coming off of it to be ethanol safe

No, just maybe some o-rings to make it fit snug in the basket. Otherwise it wires straight up.
