I started off with TrueCar offer and then started negotiations from there.
The first dealership in Northern CA really tried to put the hard sell and gang mentality. They started with the True Car price and that they would make it worth my while. (was looking at 2017 A4 and Q5, but ruled Q5 out since the 2018 is coming out in May). $45050 retail Season Audi Quattro with heated front seats and wood inlays.
First offer: $4400 down, $525/month x 36 months for 10000 miles annual. Pass.
Second offer: $2000, $460/month x 36 months. Pass
Third offer: $2000 down, $425/month x 36 months. Pass
Fourth offer: $2000 down, $399/month x 36 months. Getting close (I leased a 2016 Season of Audi A4 for $1000 down, $384/month (all with tax) x 36 months so I was trying to get that similar number that I got from my Southern CA/LA dealership).
Then, they brought out the sales manager to try and close the deal. I balked b/c it was my 1st day of research/test drive. He said if we don't have a deal- he said good day. The middle sales person got pissed- and proceeded to lecture me that I was being rude to them by not doing a deal with them since they get paid on commission and they helped me out by letting me test drive the cars without a sales person present (never mind that they were short-staffed due to illness and Saturday after Black Friday). I told them that it was day 1 and that since I have worked with my sales person in SD (who by coincidence dealership is owned by the same group) for a number of years, I would always give him last crack after my research. That just really set this guy off- he started with the scare tactics- if you walk out without getting a deal done- this offer is off the table for good (never mind that they wouldn't put any of the offers discussed on paper- except the very first one). I don't fall for hard sell tactics. My actual junior sales person was kind of embarassed and apologized and handed me his card if I changed my mind.
I put out my feelers at my Audi dealerships in southern CA (2 in LA and 1 in SD). SD matched the northern CA on the phone/email (my guy).
LA dealerships didn't really get back to me without prodding. After some back and forth on the phone/text/email, I finally got some offers but nothing close- they even contacted me saying that they had good news that they could do the $1000 down and $384/month. When I tried to connect with them to get the exact invoice to make sure that the car was equipped the same- crickets. They responded the next day that they made a mistake and that it was for ultra and FWD.
I went back down to Southern CA for Christmas holiday and on Christmas Eve popped into the dealership in person just to see if they could beat the SD offer.
I ended up with a Season of Audi A4 Quattro with added heated front seat option (no wood inlays). Retail $44,700. After Audi Loyalty discount and negotiation- that leased amount was $39428 (invoice ~ $42000).
My 3 year lease: 10k annually. $2000 down, $383/month x 36 months- including Audi Loyalty discount.
Then, I called my guy at my old Audi dealer in SD came in- after talking to his sales manager, he beat that offer- $2000 and better than $383.
It's all about working with different dealers- end of the year/end of the quarter is usually the best time to make a deal- especially if you have a guy that you've done deals with before. They want to make their numbers for the year/quarter. It becomes pretty apparent which dealerships have made their numbers and which haven't.

Then she went back to work on it with Sales Manager, who had helped me with my '11 Avant lease. He came back with an offer under invoice, and I said OK.
