Option that puts main control on dashboard

Looking at 2014-15 S4's and seeing some with the main system control on the dash by temp controls instead of on the center console behind the shifter. Anyone know what drives this? Possibly non-MMI?
Not sure why they would do this as the selector being on the center console is much more comfortable as it's at your hand when resting your elbow on the console.

The technology package moves the controls to the center console, otherwise they are on the dash.

In addition, MY '16s with Tech package (PNY - Audi option code) get a tech package credit because Bang Olufsen system is now bundled in along with Nav/MMI. Also, 15-16's get the advanced key included on P+ trim.

You may be correct but I wasn't exactly sure with the early FL 13-14's. Case in point, Audi drive select + Sports diff for 13's is an option for 1250$ (no drive select button if you don't get option) and from 14-16, sports diff was option for $1100 and had the drive select button on dash regardless if you get the sports diff or not.

Another division between the FL years 13-14's had option for 19" rotors for Titanium package and 15-16's get 19" 5 spoke v flowers for Black Optics package.

I defer to your input with the 13-14's haha. Audi always does this with their face lift years, throwing out wild cards in between to keep you guessing.

I've had cars with both setups and honestly the missing features of MMI would annoy me more than the control placement if i had to go back. My A4 and first S4 were both non-MMI and the placement never bothered me much at all.

Even more annoying when one car has nav and the other doesn't and u reach for the volume know and it's in the opposite place

I considered getting non nav car to save a few bucks ( who needs nav when you have a gps) , but placement of controls on dash was a complete turn off. Glad I ordered Nav version, just for placement of controls and for the nav which is pretty good . And separate gps, the unit slids on the dash. When you are spending $50 k for a car, what is a few hundred more really mean. Love the placement on the console, it is so natural.

This was one of the reasons why I upgraded my wife Q5, it was W/O the nav system and it drove me nuts.

y 2-10, did not have Nav and I can't say that I really missed it . But I ordered my second one with Nav. don't really use the nav feature that much, But I do like having the map display while I drive. Once you have it, you don't want to go without it. Also made my TOM TOM obsolete.
