    The $750 B5 Restoration

Hey guys! So a couple of months ago I bought a 99 B5 1.8T from a father of a friend who happened to be the original owner. FWD manual w/ sport package. Currently has 125k miles.

When I got the car it was pretty dirty but underneath the grime layed a very clean and well taken care of B5. The paint was a bit flat and it needed a thorough cleanup. How I got it:

    After a $100 detail:

    Suddenly a clean B5 emerges!

Modification: I haven't done a lot but here is what has been done to the car.
    Facelift headlights w/ HID Kit
    S4 B5 Tire rod ends
    Euro Mirrors

Otherwise a bunch of maintenance which includes:
    Coolant Flange
    Coolant hoses
    Steering Rack (OEM)
    Tire rods + ends
    Passenger Airbag
    Valve cover gaskets

Tire wise I have some Dunlop Direzza DZ102's. The tires that were on the car were new but bottom basement and mismatched

Here is how it currently looks:

Overall I am very happy with my B5 experience so far, it has been a bit more unreliable than I hoped but after that work I hope things will improve a bit. Very recently the check engine light has come on a couple times for the TPS, but after messing with the plug a bit it has gone away, I'm pretty sure it was just loose.

It cleaned up pretty good. Just keep an eye out at pick n pull for a front bumper. It is not a sport package as it doesn't have sport seats. You should look into a partial facelift or facelift console swap. The partial facelift swap really updated my 97.

Thanks. Will keep my eye out for a facelift bumper. It is a sport package but doesn't have the seats for whatever reason. It has the red shocks, Sport steering wheel, and 16' sport wheels. Also I have the original build sheet to confirm it. Its a very late 99.0 so its I imagine its what they had lying around at the factory as they made the transition to Facelift.

Still not a sport. You need the seats too.

Interested. Pic? What condition are they, and do they have side airbags?

Yea, the detail really improved it.

The main part about sport models is the sport seats. My 01 came with all the suspension and steering wheel options but it's not a sport cause I had to swap in sport seats. My 97 only came with the seats and 2.8 suspention but it is still a sport.

97 seats do not have airbags but they are he only year with black sport seats. All other sport seats are grey. You can use a resistor to fool the computers into thinking there is an airbag.

I've always wondered about the A4 B5 sport seats. My dads A3 8l has sport seats. Are they the same seats?

A4 sports are similar to the b5 s4 just cloth. Style depends on year, and there are sport leathers just very very rare.
