If you have any reservations I wouldn't bother. nobody can say what kind of car it is with a rebuilt title until you go through it, odds are it's totally fine. But then again, it had some decent residual value in 06' when it was totaled- so it may have been in a decent accident. Why it was totaled and at what value depends on the insurance and state laws I believe. Where I am the cost of repair must exceed something like 60-70% of the cars value before insurance can be required to total it; and in many cases they don't give the owner a choice.
And in just as many the car only has superficial damage and insurance it total it.
The price is good and the S6 is an awesome car, that one has relatively low miles by today's standards so probably an awesome daily driver. But poor choice for resale. Another thing to consider; how much of your own auto work do you do?
Because you mention taking it to a shop to get checked. For frame/ body work it's a good idea. But if you can't do a huge majority of maintenance yourself you're going to have a bad time with any 10 year old Audi. Especially an S6, they ARE reliable, but any single small repair can be financially devastating at the wrong shop.
For instance, the dealer price on replacing the ABS module in the S6 is around $3000.
Gets crazy when you find out Labor is about an hour and you can have it rebuild for about $80.
