2016 model year A6

Does anyone know the exact month of production start? I see build date 12/2014 vehicles on autotrader which are 2016 models. IIHS safety institute says built after 1/2015 the front wheel well is reinforced in the 2016 model year.
My question is why aren't those build dates 2015 model years?

I believe production on 2016s started slightly prior to 2015 but I can't imagine they made a few weeks of them one way and then switched.
