I'm almost embarrassed that my turbo is this loud.....

This is about 1/2 to 3/4 throttle, fwiw. Mind you, there is a fence on my right which is amplifying the sound...but still, this is really damn loud!
Turbo is a newly installed K04-15 with an RS4 CHRA stuffed in there (with some milling of the housing required apparently). Stock cat, stock exhaust :-)

It may have been a Borg Warner when it was first made, but now that they stuffed god knows what in it .....

Here's a much easier way to prime the turbo. You can use the oil can to fill the oil supply line as well as to prime the turbo.

Nothing new to report as I've not had a chance to pull the turbo. But I really am surprised at the assumption by everyone that it's Chinese until proven otherwise. The turbo has a blue K04 tag on it that shows no signs of tampering. And I have no reason to assume the shop would shadily put in a knockoff CHRA. Especially considering they handed me the BW box for the cartridge that they put in. I mean, is it possible - sure, anything's possible and I guess it could be an elaborate ruse to use fake stuff but give the customer a genuine box. But this is a reputable shop and I really don't think this is their MO. At least, I give them the benefit of the doubt and don't assume the worst. Is it possible that they didn't machine enough, or machine correctly? Sure, and that seems more plausible to me. Is it possible that it was starved for oil? I hope not, as I believe I took necessary and sufficient steps to prevent that. To spell it out though, I filled the turbo with as much oil as I could (using a straw of all things, as I have not a nifty oil can like old guy has) before securing the supply line (which was removed and cleaned, but not replaced). I pulled the fuel pump fuse. I cranked the motor for 10-15seconds, and repeated 3 times. And once it was all buttoned up, I let the car idle for 10 minutes before driving. If you see an error in that process, by all means, flame away. But from the research I did, that seemed to be a generally used and accepted method for priming.

I believe your problem was a result of something out of tolerance with the shop's machining process. They should make it right for you.

Was this an immediate sound, or did it progressively get worse? How many miles/hours on the new turbo since the noise started?

Just drive it to the shop. They will be able to inspect for improper clearance on site.

They will probably still blame you though.
