Hatch light on a timer to turn off and save battery?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Since I got my Allroad my son loves playing in the hatch. I have noticed that the hatch light seems to turn itself off after a few minutes. (The one on the trunk lid that is white/red) Is this by design? Am I safe to leave it open if dome lights are off or is it drawing power somehow?

    Thanks!

If that tiny little light staying on causes any significant issue with your battery charge then your battery was going to die anyway. That light should be able to stay lit for many hours, if not days, without draining the battery.
But, a more simple solution if it bugs you would be to swap it out with an LED bulb. The LED draws almost nothing compared to a normal bulb, it could stay on literally forever with no effect on your battery.

Wondering if other Allroaders notice that the light seems to be on a timer?

I agree with the battery comment. I just replaced mine which is partly im paranoid about it. I may have a spare festoon LED from my B8 kit that I can throw in there.

Im most curious if Audi was smart and set that light to turn off on its own after a set time.

Actually..I think ALL the courtesy lights do time-out after a while. I've left mine open many hours and seen them end up being turned off.

All the lights BUT Map lights (the little squares you activate with a button) are on timer. Even the main ones activated with rocker switch, if turned to constant on, will turn off by themselves after a while but it is more than few minutes. It seems to me more like 30 minutes although I never timed that. And yes, do LED lighting if you're concerned about battery drain.

Thanks! My mind is put at ease for full fort mode for my son in the hatch! Guess my Allroad will be getting some LED goodies in the near future, already found a cheap set on fleabay.
