Changed oil level sensor, light still on

My oil level light was on on my 2003 allroad 2.7t, so I bought a new Hella sensor from ecs. Put it in today with an oil change and the light is still on.

    Any ideas?
Is there a replaceable harness for it?

This car is drives me nuts sometimes.

Also have a coolant leak from somewhere, so that's the next project.

Another thing I thought was odd is that the new in the box Hella sensor I bought from ECS had some grinding like a cast in part number was removed.

That was probably the VAG /Audi logo they grind off in order to sell the OEM part outside of VAG's legal umbrella / patent. After a few years the manufacturers are allowed to sell parts from non-current models, but they have to remove the branding from the parts.

But, as to the problem; does the oil TEMP gauge read properly? That's the part that is usually not working when you get the wrong part. I've had trouble with the oil sensor before and eventually just bought a used one since THREE new ones in a row didn't fix the problem.

I'll have to take it for a decent drive for the temp part. The temp seemed to work with the old one. Usually a little over the 150* mark, or when you restart the car after a short stop it would be higher for a minute until the oil circulated.

I bet it's the wrong part. I think I have a NEW one sitting here if you want one to test against. it did NOT have a problem with oil-level, but the temp gauge would only read momentarily when the car was warm, then the needle would sink back to '0' .
I got a refund for it, they didn't need it returned, so + shipping and it's yours. Beeesaauuse...I'm just going to guess and say you're 100% screwed on the cost of that one, since you got it from ECS and they rarely take returns after you have exposed one of their parts to room air.

Yeah the temp works on this one. Just not the level.

FWIW there is a little known, but VERY annoying "feature" of our cars. If the cluster sees low oil level signal (actual or when sensor fails or gets disconnected) it will bring the low oil level light that can only be reset (after filling the oil or fixing the sensor) by opening/closing the hood, assuming the microswitch in the latch is still working which in 99% of our vintage cars is not anymore. I know mine rusted away about 8 years ago and I didn't bother to replace it - crappy design there.

So you see, during normal servicing with working latch switch it will be turned off immediately. Failing the microswitch signal, the oil light will go away after some combination of car starts/miles driven/actual time but nobody knows what that is... LOL.

    Where is the switch located?
It must be a lot of starts/ miles because it's driven every day and this has been on since last fall. Lol.

Well either the hood switch decided to pretend to open and close or the proper number of starts/miles was hit because the level light went out. So that's a plus. So now to start planning for fixing the rest of the issues that are cropping up. O2 sensor B2S2, mystery coolant leak, change the valve cover & tensioner gaskets. The fun never ends. Lol. I had planned on doing the O2 sensor yesterday but the rain then sleet then snow took the wind out of my sails. ;) since my garage is full of my other car project and random other stuff and the driveway didn't look inviting.

Awesome, it means I scared it into turning the light if it was on since last fall lol.

Lol. Yeah I wrote that kinda confusing. The light went on in the fall, but I just recently changed the sensor, but the light stayed on until just a day or so ago. Lol.
