I test drove a new Q7 here in Canada and noticed a few options not available. The biggest option is the lack of google maps, I did not notice anywhere for a sim card for data. Is this a US only option.
I will find out in a few days what the numbers looks like, might be owning two Audi cars.

Don't hold your breath, I think it's still not available in Canada yet. Let us know what you find out.

I asked the SA if the car had internet and he mentioned you can connect to your phone. So I will have to verify.
The dealership is about an hour from my house, so not the easiest to visit the dealership.

Like Iconoclast said, the dealer probably just didn't activate the option in the Navigation settings. As for the data Sim module. All new Q7s have it. It's in the glove box. Whether you get a limited time free subscription etc is dependent on dealer/sales region.

For 2017 Q7, the SIM card is now non-removable (probably due to the partnership between Audi and AT&T, buried inside the dash). There is still a sim slot in the glovebox (next to SD card slots), but it has no effect at all. Other new Q7 owners have tried to insert active AT&T SIM cards and the system still only recognizes the hidden one.

For the subscription, the free trial is 6 months.

Really??? How absurd! Sucks to be an Audi Q7 owner in North America then!
And your free trial period is only 6 months? They don't offer you the 3 year package?
And how nonsensical is it to STILL have the Sim slot in the glove box, but it doesn't work?
Over on this side of the pond, I'm sure legally audi wouldn't even be allowed to force you as a car owner to have to subscribe to a 3rd party company of their choice to use a car feature that works globally such as this!

My SA taking a long time to get back to me with the numbers, so I haven't been back to the dealer to confirm myself.

And Virtual Cockpit is a standard equipment in many other markets than the U.S..

Yeah, only 6 months. However I don't think I use any of the features in Audi Connect. The only features in the iPhone App that I use is to check whether the car is locked or the doors are closed, the system cannot remote start or close the windows like other car systems do. I guess I won't miss it after the trial expires.

The same casing houses 2 SD slots, a CD drive slot, and the SIM slot. I am sure it's for lowering the cost by using the same part in different markets.

It should work. Other cars have the same unit in glove box and inserted SIM work just fine. I guess second sim won't work until trial gets expired, which is silly.

Did anyone ever find out what the availability of Google maps is in the virtual cockpit of Canadian cars?

I'll answer my own question...just after submitting this I spoke with my SA....Canadians don't get Google maps and the system and full Audi Connect will not be an option.

They say they're gonna secure a network next year for Audi connect. We'll see about that.

When I ordered the Q7 last December. I asked about Audi connect and google earth as well as data which BMW, Benz and Tesla included with the purchase of the vehicle. They say so far only Wind mobile runs that frequency. They'll also have to get through some licensing stuff as well. I hope they really get on that to keep up.

Did you order the stripped-down Audi Connect so the hardware is in place for a possible update?

From what I heard. It will be strictly a software update.

Hmmm, I've heard the opposite....meaning you would at least need to have optioned Audi Connect originally and even if you did there wasn't a guarantee that it would work.
