Question Need Instructions How To Replace Thermostat & Water Pump in 2010 A6 Quattro 3.0T

    Hello Everyone,

    My Car: 2010 Audi A6 Quattro 3.0T Sedan - 108,000

I need to replace the thermostat and water pump. I scoured the web/YouTube for instructions specific to my car, but was only able to find ones for Q7, which I watched. Hoping you can help me.

I noticed there is less room between the radiator and the engine in my A6, than in Q7, so I am concerned Q7 instructions might not work.

My biggest question: is is possible to do without having to remove the front bumper/radiator, or do I have to remove them? Any type of advice/instructions would be greatly appreciated!

    Thank you very much!!

    Advice:
My 2011 A6 3.0T (60,000 miles) service history showed that the thermostat was replaced around 6K miles by the dealership. Sure enough, 3 weeks after buying the car (private sale), the thermostat needed to be replaced. When the problem happened last November, it happened quick and I knew there was no way out of a repair.

I took my car into my local indy shop and they quoted me a price of around $1350. This included the following:
    1) All labor -- that is, labor to pull the front end, diagnose, inspect, repair and put back together. Labor rate was $105 an hour.
    2) New gaskets, where needed, for water pump & supercharger.
    3) New belts (not needed but what the heck for $120-ish bucks).
    4) New thermostat & water pump.

To me, it was worth having the shop do this repair. I'm mechanically inclined, but I just don't have the tools, garage space, or time to do this type of repair. I don't have the cost breakdown in front of me, but labor time to do the repair was around 8 hours, if I recall. Parts cost was around $500 of the total cost. And, I have peace of mind that my indy shop did the repair correctly. If you are considering doing the repair yourself, make sure you inspect and consider replacing the parts I mentioned above.

sounds like you got taken for a ride cause the nose doesnt need to come off to do a water pump or thermostat in that car with a 3.0t engine. It can be done without pulling bumper, radiator or rad support.Biggest pain in the ass is the tensioner for the supercharger belt thats about it.Once the charger is off its a piece of cake.Water pump will come out as well just needs to be rotated a bit but it will come out.

    EDIT: Video added.

I have a video bookmarked on my browser. I'll post here. It's a DIY on how to replace the thermostat and carbon cleaning on the 3.2 C6 A6 which should be relatively the same on the 3.0.
