    FYI: ECS RS4 Grille Quality

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hello Guys,

I believe like many people around here bought the ECS RS4 grilles while they were on sale. The grille looks good, however the quality and finish is very poor, it is very flimsy and worst of all the glossy finish of the surface doesn't match anything what so ever; I fucking hate it! Now I have to paint everything (Grille, fog light covers and bumper skid plate), so all the trim has the same black.

Just wanted to let everybody know if you are planning to purchase an ECS grille.

Opinions; we all have them. Here's mine. Ugly, meh, perfect, however you see it, you're entitled to an opinion. I've since put a little WETS (Wolfgang Exterior Trim Sealant) on the honeycomb around the fogs and they blend perfectly. Although even without it as shown in this pic they work well.

I see the red trim under your lights, and your badge is in a non-OEM location. Was that on purpose? You also had the red rings at one time, didn't you?

I was debating on whether or not to buy the RS4 grille. I've heard mixed opinions from the ECS. part.

I guess it does come down to opinion and how detail oriented you are. Your grille looks good, however I can tell the blacks don't match and that would annoy the shit out of me.

I did the red trim under the lights myself to help tie it together. The Badge placement is easy to move, I just never have as it doesn't bother me. I'm going to repaint my crash bar with Bedliner on Monday so I may move it then. Just double sided mounting tape holding it on. Red rings? No, not me. Someone may have photoshoped my car or something.

Two things. The grill I think looks great with a mild gloss. To be flat like the fog trim would IMO look like GM Quality plastic. No thanks. Had Pontiacs before. To get them to match is pretty easy. Again, one coat of WETS and all is done. Been solved for months now. I'll have to show you updated pics.

Again, I actually prefer the glossy finish. What bugs me is the fog lights are solid and not meshed like the RS. But I'd rather have them than not as giving them a glossy sheen and making them a touch darker is easy.

I agree with you on the focus grilles. I was contemplating about buying the honeycomb and dremel each opening but unsure the sturdiness once done.

I want a good quality grey one, but I can only find one type on eBay and it needs to be dremelled to get rid of some of the grill licence plate holes.

you probably wont find one...they're all made in China. Get yourself a black optics grill, they look good and are OEM.

This is why I always say go Black Optics over the RS4 replica grille. I was debating between the two and after seeing a few "RS4" grilles in person, i'm VERY glad I went with the Black Optics instead. Leave the RS4 grilles for the RS4's lol.

Do you have the ECS part# for this?

    Also, ring holder is integrated?

if the ecs grill has the rings that are bulging out like 6 inches? that bugs me waaay more than the fit and or finish, dealbreaker imo.

buy the grill with the integrated rings or no rings and attach after. my2 cents

My ebay grille does and it's driven me nuts since day one. Thankfully the grille got destroyed by some snow, that's how flimsy and cheap it is. I'll be swapping back to my b8.5 now that I shaved the plate holder holes and installed the vinyl filler overlays.

With the vinyl filler overlays do the holes come through? Meaning is it visible?

    Which vinyl did you use?
