So I believe I mentioned in here that my clutch was slipping and I had all new stuff to put in but was dragging my feet due to a bit of intimidation. Didn't know if it was glazed and I could wear it away by driving nicely or if it was completely done. Finally found the courage to start. Got axles and and downpipe off and then when looking at trans jacks and seeing I needed also an engine support bar the wheels got to turning- why not just buy a hoist for the same price and pull the motor. Then why not just go stage 3?
I shot that idea down simply because I have a MASSIVE amount of things I want to do when I do stage 3 and it will be extremely time consuming and expensive and now just wasn't the time.
Anyway, I did remove the motor to do the clutch (first motor removal ever!)) it was quite simple and straight forward. Most of all it made all of the rest of the work a breeze. I'm super happy with the results! But my starter does need some adjustment as it makes a bit of a funny noise when starting the car. Other than that the car is 100%.
Work that was done:
-B5 RS 4 clutch and pp
-Fidanza single mass flywheel (holy hell the factory flywheel is heavy!!!)
-new tob and pilot bearing, of course new hardware
-track motor mounts (original mounts were beyond gone. Bottom bolts separated from mount)
-track trans mounts (loving these so much, shifts are very markedly cleaner)
-BRAND NEW RS 6 steering rack- not even new old stock, literally brand new (this mod is amazing, the very first time I turned the wheel it was immediately noticeable.)
-solid RS tie rod ends
-trans drain and fill
-coolant flush
-power steering flush
-oil change, lol
I'm working on a couple more mods but then I'll be in camp allroad prep mode and just finishing/finalizing/polishing the car as is for July. So happy for no more clutch slip, now I can REALLY drive the car. Oh, and the flywheel and pp were definitely glazed. Clutch disk was frail a bit but still had life.
One last note: I would NOT want to attempt the steering rack with the motor in after seeing how dang easy it is with it out. It was child's play.
