Very good and thorough response Vol. You've certainly done a lot of research between the platforms. I can only think we are scratching the surface on potential performance gains with stage 3 S6s. I will more than likely be moving forward with getting the turbo and coolant upgrades. One thing I've found is the overall price for the components are better when bought separately versus combined. I think NGP has the whole package for $9,800 where you can buy the turbos and intake at europrice for $5,999 and then separate AMS coolant upgrade for $2,800. Comes out better when bought separately unless I'm missing some key component. I'll have to buy APR downpipes separately once they come out.

Just wanted to add that at WannaGoFast event car had the AWE intake, and still ran head to head with the tuned RS7.

Also this event was held in Hot Springs, VA with the small airstrip at about 4000ft. I am sure both these cars would of had much faster traps if closer to earth...LOL

    TEXAS One Mile Event

We will be gathering some helpful data in a few weeks when we run the one mile. Car is finally set up correctly, airstrip is about seal level, and there is a RS7 running. Not sure if the RS7 is stock, but it should allow for some informative real world comparisons.

Sounds awesome. Looking forward to the results! Not bad when you can buy a used S6 for a little over $50k, put around $10k into it and have RS7 like performance.

Thanks a lot Vol for that insightful response. Finally good to get a straight response. There is actually a company that I spoke to that is working on turbo upgrades for the v8tt motor which is another reason I was thinking of switching
I actually saw the blue s6 that is in Long Island, thought about getting it as the price is right and I don't really worry to much about aesthetics because, I'm really getting the car to see what this motor is about. I have friends in my circle with the Mercedes and BMW v8tt powerplants and I see what they are doing so would be nice to see what this motor can handle

Had not started playing with cooler. Car had stock cooler during WannaGOFast event.

    Hi Vol 4.0T

I thank you for your time and effort researching into this topic.
I do agree our stage3 S6/7 would be a 10.8-10.9 on pump and 10.5 to 10.6 on race fuel however our time is harder to achieve/be consistent due to launch control unlike RS7 can just mash and go without much traction issue.

There is no way you can launch smoothly with 5K and 6K after stage1 let along stage 3, I have tested with over 30pass, 5k will wheel spin like crazy around 1.8 60ft. Best is around 3-3.5krpm I get 1.6 60ft. This is with Pilot super sport, not sure if you can higher rpm launch with drag radial. My friend told me anti-lag tune might help in this department.

I am in the same shoes and really want to be the first stage3 to get into 10s in 93oct but still waiting for APR DP.

I would like correct you on Fairbird’s comment of AWE intake -42awp, he did mod his intake and made few hp more than stock on dyno.

Stock cooling on our car is really not great at all, have you been to race track? (not drag strip)
After 5-7 hot laps you are likely run into limp mode, same with drag strip I get better time if I don’t go back to back. Car heat soak like crazy when you leave it idle. But again if you not planning to track much you really don’t need AMS cooling and I do believe air flow should be sufficient when you doing highway pulls.

Regarding to WannaGoFast event Vinnie was running 100ctane so I assume Speros also running 100oct.

    Is a STG3 S6/7 as fast as a STG1 RS7?

Play, I appreciate your comments and feedback above. I just purchased the RS7 turbo upgrade kit from Europrice for my S6. I also am waiting to see how the APR DPs turn out. I have a question in another thread asking how these would connect to my AWE exhaust. I've been wondering if the AMS coolant upgrade is necessary. I don't plan on tracking my car, just daily driver performance. Just wondering thoughts on whether it's worth it. If APRs downpipes won't connect properly to my exhaust, I might just go with AMS downpipes with cats. Not sure if anyone has feedback on those.

    Hey mate
AMS cooler is definitely worth it, top quality product however i do recommend to try without the cooler and see how the stock cooler cope with the turbo upgrade. Imo you will be fine except race track, you may lost power during 4th 5th run on dyno as our car heat soaks like crazy.

Arin may have answer your question with awe.

In terms of downpipe design i personally go with Apr one.

Cat in the dp is better for emissions. Dp is hotter therefore burns cleaner

Cat further down stream of the exhaust is better for flow and low egt ie performance

Anti-lag tune won't do anything since we're already building boost with the launch control. How were you able to lower your launch control to 3-3.5k RPM? Do you have the APR TCU?

Trust me, APR DPs will not be needed to get into the 10's with RS7 turbos. RS7s have gone 10.4-10.5 @ 131-134 with the stock DPs. I'll be proving this when my parts arrive and I head to the strip.

    I haven't road raced my S6. I have a different car that I track.
I am currently not using apr software but planning to use Apr stage3 when the dp come out.

My tuner unlocked my rev limit for launch control so i can free rev what ever rev i want, so i just partially floor the paddle to the rpm i want then let go brake and step on accelerate.

I am tired of arguing with you about downpipe so i asking do you have vagcom cable? If you do measure your exhaust gas temp to see how she is coping with 18+ psi, others things like intake temp, oil temp, coolant temp etc.

I guarantee you one thing, stock dp will limit your potential from achieving the advertised number. Once you overheat with high boost ecu will fail safe mode and you may ran into limp mode.

I look forward to your result
