    Home link problems

Has anyone experienced that they cannot get their home link garage doors to work? The same garage openers worked fine on my 02 & 07 S4 and on both our 11 & 16 Q5's but I cannot get this darn S3 to hold either of the two doors. It's driving me nuts! I have tried every instruction I can find and once in a while it holds it for like once and then it never works again. I assume it's a rolling number but again it's worked on 4 other audits without a problem ever for the past 8 years.

Sounds like a defective Homelink module.

That's what I am wondering as well, it seems now it's holding one of the two doors at least.

I know the S4 ones are hard as hell to program. It was a pain.

My 2016 A3 e-tron port-installed Homelink unit will only accept one of my 2 garage doors. And these same 2 door store perfectly in my 2007 S6, 2006 A3 and 2016 Toyota Tacoma!

    WTF Audi?

I've had trouble with my homelink setup as well. I pretty much gave up on it and just use the clicker/opener now, unfortunately.

I just got my homelink module replaced and programmed it yesterday. Still does the same thing the old one did. When I leave the house homelink will close the door just fine but when I come home it won't open it. Drives me crazy.

I had the dealer install their HomeLink on my '16 S3 Prestige. The only issue I have is to open the for I have to be almost right in front of it and hold the button down for probably 3-4 seconds to get the door to open. To close, I can just tap it and it closes.

My cars are much older (2001 S4 and A6), but a while ago, I started having issues where it was difficult to get my garage door to open when the car was outside of the garage using Homelink. I ended up extending the wire antenna from the garage door opener from being say 1.5' to around 15', and that fixed the issue. The antenna wire is small gauge, and I tie wrapped the longer wire to the conduit going across the garage to the opener so it is really not noticeable. Anyway, main thing is that if it seems like there is a sensitivity issue trying to open the garage door from the outside, then maybe try adding on wire to the antenna at least as a quick test. - Jim

It sounds similar to the problem I had, except that in my case, my opener was too new for the cars to program. My garage door opener is a brand new one that uses Homelink version 5 and has its own iPhone app, wifi connectivity, etc. Once it was installed, I found that I couldn't program the aftermarket Homelink mirrors in my cars without using a bridge device that basically translates the version 3 signal to version 5. My cars both used mirrors that were Homelink version 3 compatible. However, once I bought the appropriate bridge device for my opener and programmed it accordingly, it worked just fine. I didn't need the bridge with my '16 A3 or the aftermarket Homelink 4 mirror in my wife's car.

That said, I wonder if the transmitter in your S3 is newer than what your garage door can handle. If that's the case, I doubt that a bridge device would do much good.

Ahh, I see. You're right; it's odd that the Q5 has no issues whereas the S3 does. At least it seems like the S3 module is working properly.

The only other thing I can suggest is that there's some interference with the second door.

I have a brand new LiftMaster jackshaft opener on my door. But I do like the antenna extension suggestion and will give that a try.

Directions and other videos for e-tron demonstrate people pointing their remotes at the front of the grille while HomeLink is ready to learn. NOTHING worked for me until I was in my driver seat with the engine running and pointing my remote centimeters away from the HomeLink unit on the sunroof.

WORKS LIKE A CHAMP. Never any issues opening with HomeLink since programming.
