    Wheel treatment for brake dust

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I did a search under "brake dust" and didn't find the answer I was looking for so here goes:

Short of replacing the stock brake pads, is there any kind of wheel treament you are applying to the wheels that makes cleaning them that much easier? If so, does it work well and would you highly recommend it?

Armorall wheel protectant works surprisingly well. Or you could always wax/seal your wheel.

You could use Opti-coat on your wheels. Do a Google search on it and you can see for yourself.

+1 on the Armor All stuff. It's cheap and you just spray it on clean rims.

    This.

Poor Boys Wheel Sealant works as good as it smells. I'm also waiting for a set of Akebono's to be delivered any day now, to use with my summer wheels.

Replace with ceramic pads. 1st thing I did when I bought the car... otherwise you will be cleaning them a lot - even if you treat them.

Best thing to do is use a ceramic coating of some sort. Remove the wheels, polish them to new condition and remove 100% of the contaminants. Wolfgang Uber Ceramic Coating is one of the best and certainly the most simple to apply and use. Great stuff. Pinnacle Black Label Wheel Coating and DP Wheel Coating are some of the easiest coatings to use too. Sonax polymer net shield is another great one. G-techniq Wheel Armor is not one I've used personally but some folks I know swear by it.

Waxes and standard sealants won't hold up to the heat very well and will eventually evaporate away.

Plus you will get the added benefit of no longer having brake squeal. Best thing I ever did on my s4s. Alternatively, paint your wheels black.

AWP (ArmorAll Wheel Protectant) ironically really is the best. I don't use the other stuff they make but that AWP is amazing. Just be careful not to get the other ArmorAll wheel cleaner stuff. Get AWP

I tried a lot of things to eliminate the brake dust from my wheels. The absolute best thing I ever did was Akebono pads! Much smoother in stop and go traffic and very little dust (almost none compared to the OEM pads).

Agree changing pads is best to reduce the dust. opticoated mine and while easier to clean, the dust builds up just as quick as before.
