I was getting a hair cut and this old man in a Leaf looks at my car and starts telling me how it has more torque and could beat me. Hahhaha. A POS Leaf.

I'm not very well versed with the leaf or any Nissan for that matter, however electric cars do produce a tremendous amount of torque and it's 100% when you push the pedal. With that being said, off the line he might give you a very surprising run for your money.
I learned this when I drove the Chevy spark. Have you ever driven one of those? Out of the hole it was a rocket ship. After that it was nothing of course but the initial acceleration was very impressive.

I had a teenager yell at me "save the planet, drive a Prius" while I was driving my A6 2.0T about 5mph through a shopping center. No burnouts or obnoxious exhaust note. Ironically, my last 2 cars have been fully electric (BMW Active E & Ford Focus) and much better for the environment (and fun to drive) than a Prius.

Next time you see another Prius Preacher, get technical on them and explain this:

My wife has a Leaf. It's very quick from 0-30. But not near as quick as the S, and quite slow after that.

I like driving it to work. I can charge it for free and get the best parking spots. It's also great for driving into DC. And you can get a used one now for less than $10k.

That reminds of a documentary I saw on the Discovery Channel about electric cars. A guy modified an old 70s Nissan or Toyota (can't remember which) into an electric vehicle. The entire back half of the car was packed with batteries. This guy would drag race muscle cars and supercars and put them all to shame. Instant torque....you gotta love it! No thanks, I'll keep my growl and stay 10 car lengths slow.
The Tesla Model S can do 0-60 in under 3 seconds. Yes, a yuppy tree hugger in his P85D will hand us our ass, at least to 60mph!

Unfortunately that doesn't shock me. I've seen sales people push electric cars on the instant and relatively high torque. I've actually heard them say they're faster off the line than most sports cars. The Tesla doesn't help since it's actually true in that case.

However, she will be missing that the amazing growling, burbling roar my car makes in Dynamic mode...
