Has anyone removed their exhaust tips?

Just wondering if anyone has removed the exhaust tips on the 2015 S3. I took a look under the car last weekend, and while there is a clip you can see from the back, I can't tell if it's actually doing much to hold the tips on. However, after some tugging/twisting, they wouldn't budge.

That would be great to know, was going to go cheap and paint mine black, but don't want to pull the exhaust to do it. Painting on the car is a recipe for a crap result.

Got that right. I was thinking about powder coating mine. The only thing I thought that might get them off is a rubber mallet from the back side. If you tap around the perimeter enough they seem to move. I'm just not so keen on taking a hammer to my exhaust.

I want to powder coat black as well, I hope someone finds out. I do believe they are clipped on.

So someone asked the same question on the S3 owners group on facebook and it appears a rubber mallet is the way to go...

There is a clip on the rear inside. Just press down using a flathead screwdriver and pull the tip backwards.

it would be nice if someone sold a bolt on exhaust tip kit for the stock catback.
I could care less about an aftermarket catback, or spending $1500 on a set..

Yes I need slightly bigger tips. Or even if they were rounder to close the gap to the valance on the top side.

I don't know what size the OE piping is though. You would need to measure that first. Also Dimisa and Cyba make bolt on tips as well.

This car is running Cyba brushed tips.

Stock piping diameter is ~2.25, so that tips inlet diameter would be a tad too large. Jimmydever just did a great job with our 35123 tips:

These ones were welded on, which is something any exhaust shop can do inexpensively. More info on his thread can be found here:

Do you sell a slash cut double wall 3.5" tip with 2.25" inlet? I'm not seeing it on your site.

At this time we do not. Most of them will be 4" tips.

quad 4" tips is just too big for a car this small.

I have been very happy with Magnaflow tips. I had their 4 inch slant cut tips on my MK6R and went right to them to see if they had tips i liked for the S3. Quality is always great and the materials hold up incredibly well. All 4 were perfectly to spec and straight and true. the stock piping is 2.25 and they are 4 inches apart on center. So if you were to put 4 inch tips on the stock pipes they would touch. 3.5 was perfect for me and is the width of the stock oval tips.
