Experiencing clutch slipping on launches or hard shifts with my 13 S4. Only 11k miles so I'm debating what to do. Any opinions?

are you sure its clutch slips? do you smell any burning? if you don't smell anything its not the clutch.. could be the supercharger or tune itself .. i remember seeing a thread where something about delay with the power

It's definitely the clutch. But only on hard launch or 1-2 shift. Looking at performance clutch, but definitely expensive, so looking for opinions.

    This is definitely not true.

My clutch had been slipping so bad I couldn't get into the throttle past 40%. The RPM's would just rise, the car wouldn't go anywhere and there was absolutely no hint of burning or clutch smell.

The stock clutch in these cars is pure crap. I'm really concerned about going stage 2/E85 because I am not sold the clutch can handle it long term.

The stock clutch is crap and I'm assuming that most cars would need an upgraded clutch at some point depending upon how the car was driven. But why get a stage 2 upgrade if you're not going to drive it hard occasionally?

yeah, stage2 is too much power for the stock manual clutch, and its pricey to replace due to the labor cost, I would granny shift it if I were you.

Stock clutch is not made to handle many launches, ESPECIALLY when tuned. Time to upgrade!

Been Stage 2 since 8k miles going on 70k and still on stock clutch, zero issues. I can count on one hand how many times I have launched from a dig, this isn't the car to be doing that stuff in unless you wanna put up the $$$.

I mustve been lucky and has a good factory clutch. I think the launching is what kills the clutches or bad driving. My stepfather has been driving manuals for 40+ years and I know there is something flawed in his technique as he goes through clutches every 40k miles. I have never needed to change a clutch in any car outside of my 99 Maxima that I launched every single time I stopped. The S4 on stage 2 didnt slip for me. But I launched it maybe once.

If I understand correctly, you're saying he had the clutch fully depressed along with the brake while waiting? Not sure why that's a WTF.

But using an e-brake while waiting in traffic anywhere is weird.

+1. Been driving manual for 20+ years. Never put the e-brake when driving. Once I park yes.

he was sitting on a hill waiting for the light to turn green.. as i was taught (British way) .. if you're on a hill you pull the ebrake then go.. that's why Audi's now if you hit the gas while on a hill it will automatically release the ebrake.. well on my car.. i said WTF because i don't like my clutch being depressed for any periods of time.. especially when the car is in gear on a hill

LOL, isn't the parking brake thing a beginner's trick while one is learning to modulate the clutch? I've never heard of anyone actually doing that once they've learned.

Also, as it relates to the clutch being depressed and wearing the throwout bearing over time, it doesn't make any difference whether you're on a hill or not.

actually no its not a beginners thing.. if you were actually taught how to drive manual anywhere in the world other than the US since here they don't teach it and you are not required to take your drivers test with a manual .. you are suppose to use it..

Me too. You shouldn't need the brake while driving.

If you plan on "launching" this car on any kind of regular basis - stock power or tuned - the clutch will not last... This is a very heavy car and AWD... the weak point is the clutch and it will slip.
