    Flat bottom steering wheel

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I didn't want to spend a lot of money on a steering wheel so I took chance and bought this one off ebay.de and man it fit and works perfect.
There is only two type of round airbag for the C7 A6/A7 so I just sent the seller a picture of my airbag and he told which was the correct one to buy.

The buttons on the right hand side and the flat black around the sline is main reason why like this steering wheel more than the rest.
It doesn't do anything yet but I will program it later.

    I don't think the A8 comes with that it's the newer R8.

No one lied to me, I just took a wild guess.
I wasn't searching for what car it came off of
I just didn't want to pay too much for a steering wheel upgrade.

I wonder if the new R8 wheel would work in our cars. I like that track skip fwd/rev is now on the right hand controls and there is still a programmable star button.

I doubt it...I think the wheel buttons are specific for the virtual gauge..plus the wheel has extra buttons such as Start/Stop Engine Button, drive select, and others that we don't have...I can't see how that would work in our cars.

I wouldn't be so quick to think that. The RS6/7 performance has a new button on the steering wheel for drive select and that works in our cars, so there is no reason the drive select and start/stop button on the R8 wheel wouldn't work. The only button that concerns me is the menu button we have and I would be surprised if the exhaust and race button worked in our cars, but you never know until someone tries it.

thats interesting, these cars know the programming based on which buttons are installed, when i installed the buttons from the performance edition rs6/7 it automatically knew that the button was drive select and i didn't need to code it to work(i did however need to figure out coding on getting it to display the mode on the DIS which i did get to work )

Excellent! Well done finding it. What was the VAG setting?

It would seem the Audi buttons are like the PC keyboard. Each button returns a unique code and the MMI actions that code.

a change in the long coding in module 17, the value actually doesn't exist in VCDS but i pulled the coding from the rs7 performance i have at work and played around with mine until i found it

I'm impressed. Very few could have done this. Sounds like we owe you one. What was the long code change?

I just received my Drive Select Button from Europrice, will install it in a week.

So if you don't code it via VCDS to have it appeared in the DIS, what will happen if you press the Drive Select button and change the Drive Select Mode? How does the button show you what mode are u in? Does it appeared on the MMI Screen?

It doesn't show you anything unless you have the drive select menu up on the mmi screen.

when you have the drive select screen up on the MMI screen and press the button on the steering wheel, you will see it switch on the MMI and thats it, if you have to press the Car button every time anyway then whats the point having having the button.

With the plug-n-play success of the new Drive Select button, I'm curious why our old asterisk button couldn't be VCDS-programmed to do the same thing... is there some special chip in the new button or something?

Yes, the button has to return a different code. Probably the same code the one on the dashboard of an S4 returns.

One more quick question for you richib86.

After you install the Drive Select button, what happens to the MMI menu that allows you to program the function for the old asterisk button...does it disappear from MMI or is it still there but non functional?

    Thx

Good question, I'm not sure. My car has cold weather on it so it came with a heated steering wheel so I never had the menu on my car in the first place. I'm sure the menu can me turned on in module 5f in adaptations somewhere

Hey Richi...just installed the Drive Select Button, and is working.

However, I am unable to code the button to show Drive Select Mode in the DIS.

When I looked at my long code in module 17, it is totally different then yours. Mine is: 03CF010CAFD3D705020500

I followed your instruction by changing the 5th digit from 0 to 8, and I get "Code Out of Range". In fact tried to input numbers from 1 thru 9, and only 1 & 2 are accepted, but they do not show Drive Select in DIS. Numbers 3 thru 9 spits out "Code Out of Range".

Do you happen to know any solutions?

    Thx in advance.

I have a 2016 RS7. What year is your car?

Anyone with a 2016 RS7 who's done this mode, please report back here your result of the coding. Thx.

My car is a 16 as well. the coding below is from a 2016 rs7 performance package car, maybe that will help you out some more:

Richi...unfortunately..it's a no go still with the RS7 Performance code you provided, eventhough my car is '16 RS7.

The 1st two digits change...03 to 0B just activates the seat belt warning. Still unable to change the 5th digit from 0 to 8..still getting "Code not accepted. Code out of range".

I wonder...Richi, when you bought your Drive Select Button, did it come with Left & Right Side Steering Wheel buttons?

If yes, did you replaced both the left & right side, or did you only replaced the right side with the Drive Select Button?

And what is the part number of your Drive Select Button? Mine is 4G0-951-523-K-XHA

hmm, mine came pre-installed in the steering wheel i got so im not entirely sure if that would make a difference, i'd ask alex@europrice about that. and you're definitely in module 17 for instruments?

Oh ic...you swapped out the whole steering wheel.

My buttons came in pair..both left & right side. I only replaced the right side where the Drive Select button is located, since the left side is exactly the same. I'm not sure if that really matters...but it could if the left side gives out a unique code.

Maybe I'll also replace the left side to see if that allows me to change the 5th digit from 0 to 8. This maybe a futile attempt, but I got no other options.

Yes...I am working in module 17 for instruments.

Curious..in the photo you provided in the above post...the RS7 Performance Module 17 part no is 4G8-920-987 is different from mine also.

I'll also email Europrice...however, I doubt Alex would know the code.
