    SQ5 Regrets???

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have the opportunity to purchase a SQ5 this weekend and before I act on an impulse I wanted to see what fellow enthusiasts who have these vehicles feel or think about them.
Anyone on here own an SQ5 and have any regrets or serious complaints about the vehicle? Having put a few miles on it would you buy it again knowing what you do now after being in it for some time?

No complaints at all... The tech is a tad outdated based on the current offerings (like the C7.5's and S3's), but the driving experience makes up for it. It's North Americas S4 Avant. Mod suspension (even just springs) and it corners like a mofo; You can take on/off ramps WAY faster than a CUV should...

its timelessly styled, classy and refined, and when tuned, a 12 sec family sports car.

While I've been missing my A7 recently, I DEF don't regret the trade for SQ... I'll "rock it til the wheels fall awff", and buy a pre-loved 911 S for fun in a couple years...

I've had mine for 7 months and the squeaks and rattles from the sunroof are driving me crazy! Dealer has been great and ordered a new frame. I hope this fixes the problem.
This is my 6th Audi but I wouldn't buy it again.

Take it from someone who did "buy it again." I love these things. I'm not lowered because I'm not a car-owner in denial. I need a mid-sized SUV, and I enjoy driving. My hatch is full-o-shit and I'm rockin' the APR stage 2 tune and a few other performance mods. I've owned a lot of rides in my time, but this thing is by far the best FUV (fun utility vehicle) out there.

I needed the space. So I don't regret it at all. Love this thing. Gotta take it for what it is though... I won't be doing any track days in it lol

I looked at the SQ5, but the fuel economy vs the fuel economy of a loaded prestige TDI changed my mind.

On my 2nd one as well. Could have gotten something different, but nothing satisfied my needs like the SQ. FUV says it all!

This is my second Q. Had a 2011 2.0T, then jumped to a 2016 SQ5. Loved the 2011, and love the SQ even more. You won't regret.

    SQ5 Regrets???

No regrets for me on getting this as our baby hauler. The only thing that ever bothers me is the outdated tech like Silverarrow240 mentioned. My old 2006 Lexus actually felt more up-to-date in 2015 than my SQ5 in some ways. I also feel though that the driving experience more than makes up for that. And since I use my phone for almost everything, the tech doesn't really make that much of a difference for me at the end of the day. I hooked up a USB drive to the MMI for kids movies and music, and I use Waze exclusively for navigation.

Love mine. Awesome package, and with some low and wide, they look badass rolling around. Ecodes too :P

What specs? I have a decent feel for you, OP, and I cannot imagine you'd be disappointed in any way.

It's a toy with tons of functionality. I can help a friend move across town or baffle a mustang owner off the line. It's a almost perfect SUV.

    Ugly ???? Maybe for you

Space of a sedan ?? You must be kidding

FYI : GLC in many segments has more space than the Q5 ( cargo: Q5 540 liters, GLC 550 liters............... )

You are obviously replaced GLC with GLA

Saw a GLC yesterday, while I'm not a fan of most Mercedes styling (hello AMG GTS ) I can totally see the appeal. But if you're on an Audi forum chances are you like Audi styling anyway. Truth is the SQ5 doesn't have the latest tech from Audi (top/side view cameras, high def screen, CarPlay, etc) because the B8.5 is a old platform now. Personally for me, I dislike the new boxy styling that Audi is going with so I didn't really have a choice but to accept the lesser tech. Funny part is my last car was a F-150 which had way, way better tech in it . But in the end the all around package is hard to find. I would be surprised if another SUV felt this nimble. GLC is a nice car though

I'm def happy that I made the switch. I came from owning 3 S4's and have kids. Has all of the mod options of the B8 platform with added cargo. I'm happy with my setup, stg2, cooling, coilovers etc...... Rides as good as my S4 did for the most part. Like others have touched on, it's like an S5 Avant, to me anyway. I also have a Q7, decent contrast.

I don't regret buying the SQ5 at all. If as S4 Avant was available, I'd be in one but this is the closest thing to it. Has a good amount of space in the trunk for DD stuff. I haven't taken it on any long family trips yet, but I think I'd need to use the cargo box if I did (things tend to accumulate on vacations and I don't like driving long distances with the trunk area filled above the top of the rear seats). Has a good amount of rear seat space, so no issues there. Does it handle as well as say my old F31, no, but I wasn't expecting it to but does handle really we for it's size. Loads of power for a DD, with options for making more and having it sound good.

People mention the tech, I don't find myself think I should have more though my previous cars didn't have the latest and greatest so maybe that is why.

Also FWIW, the new Q5 wont be here until next spring/summer next summer as a 2018 model.

I still have a wet dream that Audi will update their B8.5 customer's MMI with Apple CarPlay... LMAO

Lol. You're right I am thinking about an SUV that's actually purchasable. This thing
hasn't even seen an auto show let alone been tested anywhere by anyone. Guess we'll see at the end of this year..

Also It's pretty no doubt. But I wonder why.. Maybe because it's styled after the Q.

Lastly the interior is atrocious. I never take Mercedes seriously unless it's an AMG, but nothing is standard on mercs so get ready to pay for things like leather or heated seats.

Not trying to have a huge argument, and yes I did make a mistake in thinking of the wrong car. I respect your opinion though. To each their own.

Ugly car GLC maybe to you. I do not agree with you that it is ugly

In the end: Car and Driver has appointed the C Class as the best interior under $60k.
    GLC have same interior :)

Stated I was thinking GLA. But regardless quoting CD as a source for "best interior" doesn't make it fact or evidence based. It is empirical data. Period. So, yes to me radial vents and an iPad screen aren't up my ally.

Audi > MB for value retention....
At least in the states. MB values plummet like the titanic.

iPad screen have new A4 and all new Audi models will have a similar system. Of course the new A5 and Q5 will have the same system

My friend you are missing the point of this thread. I drive an SQ5 not a new A4. I will not purchase a new A4, either. I am very satisfied with the purchase of my SQ and I vote for the old Audi interior, which OP will get.

I do hate the new Audi interior as well. I'm very saddened by the direction they went in.

Spijun you are extremely helpful though with facts and figures. I do appreciate that.

NO RAGRETS, Love my SQ5, can't wait to tighten up the suspension and mounts. Rides good for the family, but I need more "sports car" height for it.

personally i like the overall shape of the SQ way more than the avants. lowered, they just look way more sporty. avant is so long, more room in the trunk with the seats down i guess. but just really long. even if there was an S4 avant i'd go SQ again.

but i'm not gonna make any friends with that kind of talk i know most people only buy the SQ as the closest-thing-to-a-s4-avant

also idk if it was a GLC 43 specifically, but i am 100% sure i was behind a GLC a few days ago. b/c i was like woah that looks different. only one i've seen, and i was right behind it in traffic. googled just now and am fully confident that was the car i was behind.

The only time I regret buying my SQ is when I go to my local Audi dealership and see the new RS7 in the showroom.... Then I look at the price and reality slaps me across the face.

At the end of the day I'm a sports car guy, but need the room of an SUV. As much as I would love a new Mustang GT350 or the new Z06, the SQ5 is much more practical and can still cut 4 second 0-60's and 12 second quarter mile times.

i think the bottom line is, every decision in life is a trade off. you just have to ask yourself whether those trade offs are worth it to you. i think we touched all the high and low points of the SQ5, so OP can now make a decision based on his needs. only thing we didn't talk about is the ZF instead of DSG... personally i wanted some tow capacity and the ZF is plenty fast. Also i don't like dual clutch gearboxes because you don't get any UMPH in between shifts, and i couldn't care less about times. so it depends what you want, OP. good luck and i hope you are happy with whatever decision you make!

the glc is decent driving car. i test drove it once and was pretty impressed with the 2.0T that's mated to a 9spd tranny. i'd prob take it over a Q5 2.0T, fwiw. for a nicely appointed 4matic, i've gotten a quote for around $45-46k plus fees and taxes. that's not a bad price point for a mid-size suv/cuv.

Let me suggest the more 'outdated' Tech the less issues you will encounter long term should you purchase over leasing.
DO we really want all that other garbage crammed into our already techie cars? Talk about distracted driving.... Just saying.

But zee-german know engineering better, and you don't need a usb. Just like you needed flimsy cup holders above the radio in the B5/B6/B7 A4s.

LOL right. Or a high def HU screen. Or a high def rear view camera. Or top and side view cameras... Or cross traffic, or lane assist, or dynamic cruise control.... A decent interface to go through music... A way to skip to next track from the steering wheel while listening to Bluetooth... Air conditioned seats... Shall I go on? I think I'll stop here haha. But my list goes on. 2007 335 has a better interface and better screen. Yikes!

Sadface.png. But she drives so good I forget about these things quick. The stereo is good enough for me and I mostly use google maps anyway

People mention the tech, I don't find myself think I should have more though my previous cars didn't have the latest and greatest so maybe that is why.
it seems the F31 had newer tech (not sure which options you had in yours but i have every option in mine) and better cargo but the engine is such a slouch even after a few upgrades however both have better tech than my RR-SC. i do not like to load cargo above the seat line as well and find the F31 was the winner in that scenario too. comparing the two the SQ5 wins on engine, better quality interior and intuitive MMI system. contemplating SQ5 to replace the Q7 and E63 wagon to replace the F31. i have two compelling offers on the table with the only stipulation being i have to take delivery of the vehicles by 26th. i have to make up my mind within the next week.

If you think the RS7 is expensive, the dealer markup on the GT350/R is insane.

Space of a sedan ?? You must be kidding

FYI : GLC in many segments has more space than the Q5 ( cargo: Q5 540 liters, GLC 550 liters............... )

You are obviously replaced GLC with GLA

    Dimensions GLC:

    Dimensions Q5:
