    HFC 034 Spulen Eurocode?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I'm looking into getting a HFC and will more than likely run a stock tune for the next while.

I've noticed that some people have luck with running a spacer and not throwing a code, and others have tried everything and still get a CEL.

Unless I'm imagining things, but it seems as though the 034 with a stock tune throws a CEL no matter what, where the Spulen and Eurocode seem to have more success. Is that accurate?

Also, for the Eurocode, were the welds failing on the flange an isolated incident, or are these cats prone to failure?

    Thanks in advance.

HFC makes that much of a diff vs stock cat? On my B7 I went straight from stock to stage 2 with a 034 Motorsport HFC and of course it was night and day, but I couldn't really tell what part the HFC really played in the power gain...

I'm actually in the same boat. I'm waiting to rack up some more millage before I throw the tune on there but I did want to upgrade to a HFC. Anybody have any luck with the mini catalyst spacer that 034 offers for the 02 censor?

Yes, the stock catalytic converter is very restrictive. A HFC will make a difference and a test pipe will make a even greater difference, but at the expense of probably more fuel smell and it will be louder. For a turbo to operate at its highest efficiency, it needs to breathe. A cat is essentially a clog right behind the turbo that limits the turbo's ability to spin faster (back-pressure). On the m3, it gave equated to almost 50 more rwhp!

Yeah, I know the theory and all, as I said I had one in my b7. The question was, how much a diff...? In another thread someone hinted that HFC > stage 1. Really?

And louder is ok if it sounds ok.... When I put the HFC and downpipe on my B7, the sound with the OEM exhaust was.... horrible. A loud cheap sounding fart can. I couldn't live with it and ended up with an aftermarket turbo back exhaust. Although it was a good setup in the end, I don't want to spend that much money on the B8. Is it the same with the B8? Fart can?

And what about TD1? I know one wouldn't get automatically flagged by a scan, but a tech could still manually flag the car...

My 034 HFC with 90* spacer (don't know the brand) will almost always throw a code when I'm in stock mode. Trying to get an inspection sticker involves me switching to stock mode with the stalk, carefully driving for ~20 miles to get the sensor to initialize while repeatedly checking with my OBD app, then immediately driving to the inspection station once it is. Sometimes I don't make it there before the CEL hits and the process starts over again.

Have you tried installing the o2 sensor without the spacer? You should have better luck going that route because you can gain a few more miles, enough to pass your inspection. But if you are running a test pipe, you'll only get 20-30 miles out of it before cel light comes on. Running a spacer reqiures trial and error before you get it right.

i have the Roc Euro mini catalyst spacer, same as the 034 one i think. but yeah i've had it for a year now and it's great, no CEL at all related to the cat. i used to get random CEL for the cat about catalyst efficiency etc, basically my oem cat is going i think. but since i put the spacer on have not had a single CEL and that code hasnt come back, been through winter/cold, etc. that spacer works great in my experience, and definitely should prevent a CEL.

thats the straight spacer? Roc-euro sells three types and i've heard the 45* works best in our application. its 3 weeks BO'd tho.

Easy answer; all HFC are the same, buy whichever one is cheapest, no o2 spacers work long term, the ecu will eventually figure it out, take the money you wasted buying different type of spacers and do it right-buy a stage 2 tune. End.

My spacer has worked for a year now, and many others have success with them too. Some cars don't though.

according to your sig you're stage 2 tho, so a spacer is irrelevant at that point? or is it GIAC different?

GIAC asks if you want the second O2 coded out or not. I asked to leave it active so I can pass OBD2 scans. I get a CEL every few months, but just clear it out with dashcommand.

What spacer are you using? I'm looking to upgrade to a HFC and run without a tune for a hot minute while I save for a turbo upgrade.
