Trunk not opening: Is it a fuse?

Periodically, I will get alerts that my rear fog lamp, rear brake light, and rear tail light is out. When this occurs I am unable to open my trunk with the cabin button or by pressing the pressure plate/button on the actual trunk. Sometimes the system will "reset" and all is well, only to occur again. Does this sound like a fuse issue or, more likely, a wiring issue? Thanks much for your responses.

Fuses never fix themselves. It's a wiring/ground issue. Since the tail lights and trunk latch are really pretty unrelated, I'd wager you've got a ground issue back there.

Hello, I have had the the same problem. The wiring between the trunk lid and the body was broken. You find it at the left side. Get an aftermarket part of high quality that does not break and your problem is solved.

I really appreciate the direction! Can you please advise where to locate the wiring harness on the left side (light assembly, under the felt covering of the trunk lid, etc.)?

Did you ever find the problem? My trunk is not opening now.

I recently replaced a bulb for the right side brake light, but didn't notice any problems, but since, can't open the trunk with the latch, key or driver side switch.

see if you have power to the solenoid , when trying to open , if you do its the solenoid. if not im going with the same wiring harness mentioned above. ive had to repair it on all the audis I have owned.

My problem was a broken ground wire inside the front portion of the top 40% of the left side trunk wiring harness (had to slice the rubber boot around the wiring). There are photos floating around the Net. Used a heat shrink butt connector, then sealed rubber boot with silicone and tightly wrapped in duct tape. Since your problem occurred different than mine, I suggest you follow Theiceman's recommendation first.
