So.....what are you getting with this "upgrade?" Do you run this with the stock software? What about adding aftermarket software (APR?). No dyno plots, no mention of power...c'mon guys, you're better than this.....

It's a bolt on replacement turbo. It can be used while still using factory software and fueling but to fully optimize the power potential proper ECU tuning and injectors is recommended.

Currently Eurodyne is the only software available specifically for this turbo. Which unfortunately we do not carry so it would need to be sourced directly though them at this time.

For more information feel free to check out Frankenturbo's site HERE

No point for us to post dyno's and mentions of power because we only sell the hardware.

You're selling an upgrade without mentioning how its an upgrade....or maybe I'm not that great at reading. So, how is this an upgrade? Are the materials just better than stock?

it's similar to a K04 turbo. @Lettuce runs one and has the quickest 1/4 mile B8 A4 time on 93 octane at 12.6.

Great, thanks, which is the kind of info I was looking for....coupled with the Maestro tune, looks like this combo is a great option...almost $1k cheaper than APR's K04 upgrade/tune, no?

Assuming you completely missed the third paragraph in the original post..

"The F23L utilizes an inconel 713C Alloy Steel "Mixed Flow" Turbine Rotor, forged billet aluminum alloy compressor wheel, 42CrMo high-strength rotor shaft, and an up-rated K16-series 360 degree thrust bearing and ring."

The upgraded materials allow for better flow which will allow you to move more air, essentially meaning more power, of course with the proper supporting mods and software.

Your information says absolutely nothing with regards to how someone can "infer" that this is better. There is no empirical or qualitative evidence in this thread or your site to suggest this is an upgrade.

Thanks for the link. Im new to the B8 platform and Audi in general so as I do my research on upgrades, I want to know what the options are. I wasnt familiar with anyone using this frankenturbo, just the K04 and soon to be released EFR, so I apologize for sounding like a dick.

Because we don't have any of that information of our own! But since that seems to be what you're searching for I took it upon myself to provide you with some links that Doug from FT has made in regards to this turbo we're offering. From those you should be able to answer just about any questions you have.

No worries! But ya this isn't one of our ECS in house products. I only have the information we get from FT and my own prior knowledge of turbochargers. Since there's no "empirical or qualitative evidence" from a B8/B8.5 I don't feel it's in good taste to post graphs from other vehicles even though the engine in the B7 and MK5 are very very similar. But I'll be happy to provide links so someone can research it themselves and draw their own conclusions.

LoL, look at the second post on your first link

Disclaimer: I've bought multiple times from ECS. Totally satisfied with their service. I just think this marketing for Frankenturbo is rather lacking in detail/quality.

You guys should take some time to go ask the 5 or 6 b7 frankenturbo initial buyers how their experience went.

Iirc none of them have frankenturbos anymore.

Some of them gave up after the turbo blew up the first time, others replaced it and gave up on frankenturbo when it blew the second time, and some even went out to give frankenturbo a third replacement and try, and yet they all blew up.

The best part is that frankenturbo is Chinese, and someone from China is now selling frankenturbos on eBay, same design and everything for half the price. Like $700 iirc. Which is where this turbo should be priced because it's just such bad quality

Dude, do you have some sort of alert set so you can jump on any thread that mentions Frankenturbo and bash them?

It's really poor form to come on an ECS thread and be such an ass. ECS is a great vendor on here and Jason handles himself really well.

Though I don't blame ecstuning for getting on the frankenturbo bandwagon.

Last frankenturbo dealer I spoke with said he got a 40% cut.....that's huge. $600 just to sell a turbo and then frankenturbo deals with the warranty when it blows up.

Also shows you how much profit margin is factored into the $1500 price point

My Frankenturbo has been running great and absolutely flying for the ~10k miles I've had it on, including the dozens of 1/4 mile runs it's blasted through at the drag strip without a single hiccup.

Considering I've never seen a single other B8 A4 with a K04-variant turbo run a faster time on 93 than my F23L, I couldn't give a fuck less about some autistic photoshopped compressor map bitchfest. I'll tell you what's not photoshopped: my 12.6 second timeslips. If anybody really thinks the F23L isn't what it claims to be then meet me up at New England Dragway with your K04 B8 and we'll see how confident you are then.

I wanna buy one just to piss mec off, even if his claims are valid he's a douche, I remember all the way back to my b7 days

But really though I wonder what Doug did to the guy? Kick his three legged dog? Feed his first born with a slingshot? Take a " yo mama" joke to far?

I'll tell you what's not photoshopped: my 12.6 second timeslips. If anybody really thinks the F23L isn't what it claims to be then meet me up at New England Dragway with your K04 B8 and we'll see how confident you are then.
Can this turbo be utilized well with stage 2 or ko4 file or does it need maestro only. Thanks

There is at least one person running an APR K04 file with a frankenturbo. The prob would be getting support from APR if their are issues. I'd go Eurodyne, with this turbo, their numbers look good.

Ditto to that. The Eurodyne tune for this turbo is solid. @lettuce is a pretty good testament to that.

Last frankenturbo dealer I spoke with said he got a 40% cut.....that's huge. $600 just to sell a turbo and then frankenturbo deals with the warranty when it blows up.

Also shows you how much profit margin is factored into the $1500 price point

How much markup do you think a retailer gets on any other product? If Home Depot is selling lightbulbs for $5 but they only buy them for $3, how much money is Sylvania getting out of that? And they deal with the warranty!

I have no dog in this fight, but your point on margins isn't even remotely based in reality. BTW - Take a guess at how much the mechanic gets paid when the shop labour rate is $110/hour
