It is time to say good bye to one of our favorite shop cars we've ever had the pleasure of owning. The 2016 Matte Daytona Grey Audi RS7 will be forever missed but it is indeed time to move on. But before we open up another chapter and start writing, let's take a look back at some of our favorite moments with the meanest saloon in town and all over the interwebs.....
We started out with something already great. We had a tall order; to try and take it to the next level in the cleanest way we know how. We ordered the car in factory Matte Daytona Grey and picked her up in May 2015 from our friends at Audi San Diego.
For Phase One, we had some things already planned.
First thing's first: TAG Painted Reflectors. Nothing like getting rid of the unwanted orange reflectors and the chrome badging. We had OEM reflectors painted and color matched perfectly to our Daytona Grey Matte. Immediately changed the car to a cleaner design.
Before we began shoe-swapping, we reached out to our friends at H&R and their trusted Lowering Module was first equipped, bringing the RS7 down to Earth and making sure our line up of wheels would sit nice and flush.
To match the aggressive stance with an aggressive sound, we went with the best in the biz: Akrapović Evolution Titanium Exhaust.
The deep growl of the Akra Evolution and the impeccable titanium construction made this system a no brainer for us. Being that the car was matte everywhere, we finished the tips in a Gloss Carbon rather than the factory matte carbon Akrapovic offers standard.
You can check out how awesome this system sounds here:
For the first set of wheels, we went with the newly debuted HRE RS1M line, and started out with the RS100M finished in Satin Bronze. We re-used the factory 275/30/21 Dunlops that were standard on the car however we went with a 21x10.5 wheel all around giving it that beautiful stance.
We loved the way this initial setup turned out, and we knew we started out on a strong note.
Next up, Phase II.
We couldn't leave out one of our favorite mods for the A7/S7/RS7 body: the Abt Sporsline Carbon Fiber Decklid Spoiler. A full carbon piece, this decklid spoiler is designed to sit atop the trailing edge of the factory deployable spoiler. It adds just the right amount of flare to the rear end and compliments the carbon fiber diffuser perfectly.
And a new phase is not really a new phase without a fresh new set of wheels. This time, we went with the BBS CI-R's, finished in Platinum Silver, which accented the matte color of the car.
We went with a 20 inch set up, stepping down from the OEM 21 inch set up, giving it a bit more meat on the tires and a more Motorsports driven approach. This setup also aided in ride comfort, and a great option for owners looking for a more OEM approach.
Phase III: Back to HRE
HRE Wheels and their absolute fire selection of designs are constantly expanding and being refined. Their new P1 line additions include the P103, a 15-spoke design, with similar enough design cues to the Audi R18 racecars, granting its place on our RS7 a must.
We chose the forged monoblock 21" wheel to be finished in Brushed Dark clear, one of our favorite classics.
Phase IV: Another set of shoes - ADV1
ADV1 started out in 2009, and in just over 6 years it has already reached massive fame due to their incredible wheel designs and highly tailored fitment configurations, not to mention their amazing portfolio of optional finishes.
To change it up, we went with the ADV7MV2 CS finished in Satin Polished..
We opted for the exposed hardware, for a more technical intricate overall look. This is one of our favorite setups. During that time, our friends at ADV1 and Cinemotive Media made this stunning video featuring our TAG RS7 as well as a recent AMG GTS Build on ADV1 wheels!
Phase V: Rotiform Darkness + A touch of color!
California-based Rotiform and their great looking SPF were a great direction for the blacked out look we were looking for. Satin Black was the color of choice for the face, with a high-gloss black on the outer lip.
To complete the blacked out theme, we went with our TAG RS7 Cosmetic Package, to add to our TAG Painted Reflectors. We also decided to add in a touch of color by painting the calipers in the Porsche 918 Acid Green. We felt it went perfectly with this color combo!
This time around, we wanted some more power out of our RS7. We turned to our friends over at GIAC for their ECU Upgrade, and to our friends at AWE for their AWE Tuning S-FLO Carbon Intake System.
Another cosmetic addition we made were the Neidfaktor Carbon Mirror Covers. With so many of the car’s cues darkened or blacked-out altogether, TAG decided to inject some bold colored brake calipers in order to finish off the new appearance – often a signature of a TAG Motorsports build. This time around, that meant Porsche Acid Green paint and, as always, the factory logos are retained.
Phase VI: Vossen
When Vossen announced their new directional VPS307T's we absolutely fell in love with them.
We ordered ours in Polished with Brushed Face, and the contrast turned out perfect. Clean, Classy and Beautiful!
This unique choice of wheels certainly turned some heads, and although a more classic finish, the Polished and Brushed textures of the wheels gave an exotic flare to the RS7 when combined with the Acid Green calipers.
Phase VII: Back to ADV1
We had an event coming up, so and outfit change was in order. We went back to our guys in Miami for new ADV 5.0 MV2C2's in the absolutely gorgeous Polished Liquid Smoke finish.
In its final form, the look of the RS7 was complete. The darker tones with bright highlights on the wheel gave them the necessary contrast to play along with the dark Daytona, and we couldn't get enough of it.
Needless to say this car saw quite a few changes in its life with us here at TAG. We fell in love with the RS7 platform, and this Daytona Grey Matte Devil was one of the greatest examples of its kind. With subtle modifications and a clean approach, we feel that we created a car we will continuously look back to.
If you're wondering what will be replacing it, we will post an announcement thread shortly. You can count on: numerous wheels, innovating color combos, and ultimately, just pure Audi sexiness.
