    Scraped my bumper =(

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Last night when pulling into the driveway I accidentally scraped my brother's car and in the process scraped my car too (See Below). Went to go get an estimate on the repair and was told it will cost $740.24! I am definitely going to price shop before pulling the trigger.

Anyone in Houston know a reputable indy shop that can offer a better deal?

How affective are the touch up paints? http://www.amazon.com/Audi-Genuine-W.../dp/B005P2OBPI

    Thanks, bizzy. Appreciate the uploads.

Yea it's not too bad. Definitely did not lose sleep over it. But would like to get it fixed. Thinking of doing a touch up as a temporary fix. Would prefer feedback on touch up paint before going that route.

I don't think you can fix that to 100% - but you could certainly make it look pretty good with some effort and touch up paint - $750 isn't too far out of the realm for a professional fix.

If it were Me - I would start with some swirl remover (Megauirs Scratch-X is good off the shelf option) and see how much you can clean it up - maybe you can just live with the defect. Although I would still expect that much of the bigger black chips with stand out - then see if touch up works to hide those - if it still bothers ya - opt for a pro fix!

I would try and buff out the area and clean it up and then apply a few coats of touch up paint, since its not a super high visibility area you might be able to live with the results.

Damn, I always wind up scraping my bumper at least once a year. I got a complete bumper repair kit from Amazon and will let you know how it looks. ($50)

I just had my bumper resprayed for around $500. Shop around if you get it done, and I recommend it.

I just had both my front and rear resprayed for less than $900.

I removed the bumpers myself and took them into the shop (which saved me about $400).

What part of Texas exactly? Feel free to PM me. There are a ton of detailers that can fix that. I've done several. That's actually a pretty simple fix to get 95-98%. Better IMO than spraying the entire front.

I have been to two body shops for an estimate and both said I can't bring the bumper itself, otherwise they won't work on it. Bunch of thieves. Most of the estimate is going into removing the bumper. I will keep looking. In the meantime I will do a touch up.

I would listen to @Johnnycash advice. I remember Crash's brother messed up a range rover bumper pretty bad, had it buffed out, and legit all of the areas that looked like scrapes turned out to be scuff marks that could be removed. It's worth trying the cheap fix first. If it doesn't work, you haven't put that much time or money into it.

Had very similar scrape on my bumper (black)

I buffed what i could and the rest i put some touch up paint from touchupdirect.

The color match was perfect and the scratch is hardly visible.

It might be a little more visible on white but i would give that a shot first.

I had a very similar, maybe deeper and definitely longer rub on my 2016 glacier white s4. Since it only had 1500 miles I opted for the respray. I paid $900 for them to do all the work. In retrospect, I probably could have just brought them the bumper and saved some cash.

One word of caution, a few shops I went to offered to "blend" it for $3-500. This saves money but they only repair the affected area and try to blend it with the existing paint/clear coat. Having seen this type of repair several times on several colors, its quite obvious when you see it.

I decided to take the advice of the forum members and some detailing guidance from pdqgp to try to fix the bumper myself. It's not perfect, but I am quite pleased with the results. Let me know what you guys thinks.

Following were the items I used for the repair:

    2x Applicator Pads ($2.99)

1x Turtle Wax Premium Rubbing Compound ($8.99)

1x Meguiar's Deep Crystal carnauba liquid wax ($9.99)

1x OEM Touch Paint and Clear Coat ($19.99)

    1X Spray Bottle ($1.00)

    1x Sheet of 2000 Grit Sandpaper ($5.99)

    1x 3M Automotive Masking Tape ($5.99)

    Total = $54.94

    The original damage.

After applying Turtle Wax Premium Rubbing Compound to eliminate/reduce any paint transfer, scuffs, and scratches.

After applying couple layers of touch up paint.

Prepped area for wet sanding with 2000 grit sanding paper.

Final result after applying clear coat and Meguiar's carnauba wax

Glad it worked out man! Just hit it with a little Meguiar's ulitimate Polish and a white pad if you feel it needs a bit more and you'll be good to go.

It's not a highly visible area, so it doesn't bother me. Plus, it's really hard to tell unless you were looking at it up close. I will leave it as it is for now.

Nice job on the DIY. Definately saved money and worry of a non-factory painjob on front bumper.

I finally used the Scratchwizard touchup kit and it turned out better than I expected. I had a nasty scrape in the plastic bumper cover. They give you most of the bits you need; matched spray paint, clear coat, red putty, sandpapers, applicator etc. Finished it off with rubbing compound and wax and it's surprisingly good. The red putty fills in the deep scratches and is a must.

I'm not the original poster of this thread. I was having a similar issue as him.

GOOD fix, i am pretty OCD & that wouldn't bother me too much. You'll only really see it when you wash the car etc id guess. Just imagine if you by accident scraped it again, even slightly after you painted it a few weeks later, id cry lol.
