    TTS calling me

For several years now, I've been wanting a TTS because it's a model you don't see much. I found one on Autotrader that piqued my interest last evening.

    2015 CPO
    8300 miles on the odo
    Panther Black
    Black/crimson red leather seats
    19" wheels
25 months remaining on the original warranty
    Audi Care included (45K)

I would hate giving up 68hp, but quickness would be similar, albeit with a tiny bit of turbo lag. I would expect the handling to be better. TTS gets better fuel economy. B&O to Bose is no big deal since I mainly listen to talk radio on my commute. I would miss the advanced key.

So, anyone know of anyone who's gone from the S4 to the TTS? Was it a good move or no? It's only an hour away so a test drive is in order. Just thought I'd get some opinions to help decide if I want to seriously consider this.

    TTS calling me

I went the other way around... Golf R to S4... The powertrain on the TTS leaves much to be desired. Its a 4 banger after all IMO

TTS is a two person car and a little impractical also

I did the exact opposite of what you're thinking.

    Compared to S4
TTS lacks power below 3000 RPM
    TTS electronics is old technology
TTS gets about 4-5 MPG more based on the way I drive
I planned to do aftermarket audio upgrade on TTS. I sold what I purchased when I bought S4.
TTS is definitely lighter and can be felt when taking sweepers.
TTS not as practical as S4. I didn't get to drive it as much due to useless back seats.
    TTS rarer than S4

    Hope that helps.

Thanks for the input. I don't need 4-door. 99.9% of the time I'm the only one in the car. It would be my DD during the week and we've always used my wife's Murano on the weekends.

The other reason I'm interested is that any more there are so many Audis on the road and other than the 7s and Qs, it's hard to tell the models apart from a distance. Audis are almost as common as BMWs now.

If you like the TTS, what about the TTRS? Pretty sweet looking little ride IMO and there are kits out there where you can go over 600hp.

Keep in mind the TTS is 95% FWD unless the front axle loses traction. The Haldex system in the new TTS is more proactive and engages the rear axle more, but the older system is FWD plus rear axle only when needed. My dad had an A3 and I drove a friend's Volvo Cross Country to the snowy mountains 2 weeks ago. Both drove equally terrible on the deep white stuff and slush. The front is constantly drifting left and right and impacting the ability to steer like in an FWD car. The rear axle only pretty much gets engaged to get moving from a stop, but once the car has momentum it turns into an FWD car.

Your going to get a ton of opinions on this, hopefully someone chimes in that did the same exact thing. If you have had your eye on it, go for it. Nobody will be able to tell you what you need to hear. Go test drive it and you will have your answer real quick.

I'd say most people go from the TT to the S4 as they start a family and need the space. The new TT looks amazing on the inside and exterior is an upgrade in my opinion. It won't be as refined or comfortable as the S4, that being said having the warranty would be a relief I'm sure. I'd personally say it comes down to what your daily commute is like and what your priorities are.

TTRS is tuned more for track then the street-its pretty punishing on typical crap US roads. Mileage is more S4 than TTS as well.

I have driven both and would want a TTS for a street car. I drove the TTS at Sonoma raceway during an Audi event, and loved the car. plenty of power, comfortable. Main problem is the things are not depreciating very quickly!

Great car but WAY more money. I'm really interested to see what the new TTRS brings.

2012 models are at my price point and are out of warranty. 360hp would be plenty for me since I don't mod. But, yes, a very sweet ride.

Good info. Thanks. I forgot about Haldex and that could be a deal-breaker for me. I've loved the Quattro system for over 20 years now.

Thanks. Commute is ~25 miles with about 10 on the highway and the balance getting to and from it both ways.

Good info. The fuel economy is a minor reason I like the TTS vs. S4, given that the quickness is very similar. I need to go drive it. The lack of low end torque vs S4 could be a deal-breaker along with the fwd aspect. And yes, its amazing how well they're holding their prices.

Yeah I wouldn't do it. I'd do a TTRS if I didn't need my back seats, but not anything less. Especially because I don't like Haldex, your weather is like ours - it will be noticeable compared to the consistant awd.

If I was really hankering for a two door I'd go S5, but I get what you mean for wanting something different.

    TTS calling me

I did the opposite. Had a 2011 TTS with a apr stage 1 tune. It was a ton of fun. Loved the way it drove. I don't need a backseat and 98% of the time I'm in the car alone. My biggest thing was the car was just so small. Costco trips were tough, had to think while picking out stuff if it would all fit.
A part of me does miss it but I really do love my 15 S4!!

my wife and I are interested in getting one. i say test it out and if you like it, why not? she drives a 4 seat VW CC now but LOVES the TT in general.

If you are interested in a 2 door, maybe look into the CTS-V or C63. But if you are sticking w/ Audi, the TT is a great looking car with great performance. You won't know though until you make the dealer nervous while you test drive it. Good luck in making your decision!

Vision from inside of TTS is severely restricted, and Haldrex is not a Quattro . S4 is not a common car , there are not many on the road compared to other audi models. In my 18 months of S4 ownership , I have only seen 3 other S4 in Hartford, Ct area. And only on those three occasions ..s5 would be better option if you want a 2dr.but S4,is still better. S5 rear seat is useless for people

this. I decided against getting my corvette for the s4. we plan on trying to start a family in a few years and I know I would hate having to get rid of my vette and start over with purchasing a new car. I figure if I can get this paid off and some mods done before the SUV, its a win. hah! but as you are retiring in a few years, who cares about practicality if you already have another car! I already started my supercar fund for when the time permits....at this rate, I can get that civic si type-r before I retire. hahahaha j/k. probably get into an alpha or jag at that time. ... maybe.

Not true. All depends on the size of people. I'm 5'11' and I had three adult Asians on the rear seats at one point. I've given many friends rides home and I have yet to turn anybody away. I chauffeured my parents around who are in their 60s and overweight if not borderline obese. I went for the 5, because most of the time it's just me or me and my wife, so I wanted a 2 door 2+2 with room for the occasional passengers and plenty of trunk space for road trips. The 5 is a GT after all.

I'd make sure you get a LONG test drive first. We have a TT roadster and my wife loves the little car, but she always complains about people trying to run her off the road, dont see her and move over on her, pulls in front of her because they don't think her car can do damage, etc. overall you are treated differently due to being smaller.

Like mentioned above the TT has the haldex, which is crap. it's fine if you want to drive at mild speeds on snow, it keeps you going enough when you slip on acceleration. The big issue is it kicks in LATE when you need it there mid corner or just one side of the car slips like in rain hitting standing water. makes for a very weird and uncomfortable shift in how the car behaves. And yes the TT feels like crap power wise. I had APR stage 1 and didnt like it, the power band was really weird to me and just didn't fit the personality of the car so I put the stock tune back. it is WEAK.

that said, it's cute but more of a woman's car (my wife's DD when she doesn't take my truck) and really, unless you are getting the convertable it has no real use. for that "style" I'd rather get a used 350Z that will out class the TT in every way. I do however feel the new TT might be able to change all that with its redesign of nearly everything and the newest gen haldex (i think is near identical to the S3 and Golf R if i am not mistaken) which is better, but still FWD bias.

ultimately it is your call if course, but do make sure it's the change you want, not the change that you want to want. If all you really want is something different, or out of the norm, then why not consider the hyundai genesis coupe? I almost bought the 6 cylinder one a couple years back. Surprisingly nice car for the money.

All good replies and points. I think having the Haldex nixes it for me. I've had Quattro for over 20 years in the course of Audi ownership and love it. When I bought the S4, I did a back to back test drive with an S5 and the 5 felt heavier to me even though it's not the case. I've had an A5 and love the A5/S5 looks, but it felt cramped, so the TTS will be even more so. I know there aren't many S4s on the road, but they aren't that much different looking than an A4 and those are damn near plentiful as 3 series BMWs. I'd like something less common.

    Hmm, I could go......Jag XE 3.0 AWD

jag could work indeed. we are considering the F-type roadster for my wife to replace her TT roadster. the XE is a nice one, but might be a bit more to spend as they just came out and have not dropped in price yet. if that matters.

    Hmm, I could go......Jag XE 3.0 AWD

the jag xe is sharp car for sure.. i remember I was obsessed over the xf when it first came out. yeah the all the time fwd until slippage occurs w the haldex on the tts would be a non starter for me mainly because I hate driving fwd cars not so much safety..

Buying a vehicle like a TTS in an auto trans seems like such an oxymoron to me. Especially given it's a 4 banger. I wouldn't be able to do it unless MT...

TTS is a good looking car for sure, but I personally can't see myself ever going back to a 4 banger for my fun car. Turbo or no turbo.

Using the configurator, I end up at $48.2K MSRP for the 3.0 supercharged AWD, 19" wheels, nav, & cold weather pkg.

Not my car of choice, but looks like a decent deal. Audi's pre-owned locator has ONE within 100 miles of me (I was going to volunteer to test drive if available in Boston ) and it is a CPO Suzuka Gray 40k miles for $49k in NY.
