I'd make sure you get a LONG test drive first. We have a TT roadster and my wife loves the little car, but she always complains about people trying to run her off the road, dont see her and move over on her, pulls in front of her because they don't think her car can do damage, etc. overall you are treated differently due to being smaller.
Like mentioned above the TT has the haldex, which is crap. it's fine if you want to drive at mild speeds on snow, it keeps you going enough when you slip on acceleration. The big issue is it kicks in LATE when you need it there mid corner or just one side of the car slips like in rain hitting standing water. makes for a very weird and uncomfortable shift in how the car behaves. And yes the TT feels like crap power wise. I had APR stage 1 and didnt like it, the power band was really weird to me and just didn't fit the personality of the car so I put the stock tune back. it is WEAK.
that said, it's cute but more of a woman's car (my wife's DD when she doesn't take my truck) and really, unless you are getting the convertable it has no real use. for that "style" I'd rather get a used 350Z that will out class the TT in every way. I do however feel the new TT might be able to change all that with its redesign of nearly everything and the newest gen haldex (i think is near identical to the S3 and Golf R if i am not mistaken) which is better, but still FWD bias.
ultimately it is your call if course, but do make sure it's the change you want, not the change that you want to want. If all you really want is something different, or out of the norm, then why not consider the hyundai genesis coupe? I almost bought the 6 cylinder one a couple years back. Surprisingly nice car for the money.
