    Hello everyone,

I recently traded a 2011 Audi TTS with 27000 miles for a 2010 Audi S4 with 69000. Car is covered with Audi Care Plus until 12/31/2016 so I got 75k service for free.

I purchased Extended (48k/4Y) warranty for $4900. Good idea or not?

If overpriced, where should I shop and how much should I pay?

not sure about the price of the warranty, but you should determine the value of the piece of mind that it gives. Also, hard to tell without knowing what is covered and what is not. but consider that with one major issue with the car the warranty should pay for itself.

If you want to shop, ive read a lot of positive feedback about fidelity warranties. or just wing it, put the 5k in the bank as a fund for future issues, and then through a bit of cash in the account every month/paycheck/whatever, and at the end of the day, you either use it for repairs, or if you dont have any issues (fingers crossed for you), then you have a bit of a slush fund in 4 years!

biggest thing to keep in mind is your tranny on the 2010. If its a DSG, i think the warranty isn't too bad @ 4yrs/48k.

You already purchased the warranty and you're looking for validation of your purchase? Or you are considering purchasing the warranty?

I'm a dealer in NJ. The $4900 quote is a little high but nothing crazy. We have comparable plans through Allatate which let you bring the car to Audi and usually range from $3500-$4500.

Piece of mind is key here, I'm assuming you financed? If you did (let's assume 72 months) the warranty is costing you roughly $70/mo.

You bought a used car chances are somethings going to happen. Everyone likes to bash warranties until their car breaks and they have a $3800 service Bill.

Your basically assuring your self that for $70/mo, your not going to have to sink money into your car. In the rare occasion that you never have to use it, you lost your money. If you a few minor issues, your going to be covered and get that money back and more.

You bought a German car and probably spent $25-30k, you made the right choice by choosing to spend another $4900 and protect yourself.

I always advise buying an extended warranty, but $4900 seems high, depending on the term and what is actually covered. These car have been remarkably reliable. But things do break, I was more concerned about the big stuff going bad rather than being covered for every little thing. So I bought a standard level of coverage. You can repair quite a lot for $4900. BTW, I have yet to need the warranty with 63k miles. If you do get a warranty, get one that has basic coverage for the major components.

Thanks everyone. I never needed to buy extended warranty before because I usually buy new or CPO so I'm not familiar with cost. I bought the warranty for piece of mind fully aware that I may not use it. I learned my lesson about price :).

I wasn't sure if $4900 is a good deal or not due to lack of experience buying extended warranty.

Extended warranties wouldn't be a viable business if the house didn't win. I figured that out long ago.

Yes. Insurance should be for catastrophic losses that you can't cover. Or, if the peace of mind is worth the price.
