Axle Grease got on wheels -- seems stained and wont come off -- suggestions?

As my post implies, one of my axle shaft boot/bearings came undone and leaked grease all over the inside and outside of one of my wheels. The grease seems to have stained the painted wheel.

Any suggestions for how to resolve this? The wheels are otherwise in great shape.

What have you used and attempted to clean the wheels to date?

3m adhesive remover is pretty effective on most things and safe for paint, have not used it for this scenario however.

I've used soap & water, sponges, and the iron-out type of products that help remove the metal particles with my first try. Simple green to try to break up the grease on my second try. Nothing seems to have made it budge.

Get some prepsol. That will get the job done.

Without pictures, not sure how much help we can be. But, if you're certain it's just a grease stain that won't come off, you can try the following in increasing order of aggressiveness (and thus, caution):

    White vinegar
    Rubbing Alcohol
All-Purpose Cleaner (recommend Meguiar's for OTC availability and cost)
    Clay bar
Meguiar's #105 polish with a microfiber and elbow grease (no pun intended)

All should be safe for a painted wheel, so long as you don't let it dwell too long or dry on there AND you properly protect the surface thereafter. OTC Meguiar's #21 Sealant and/or Nu-Finish is super cheap and provides decent protection.

Try some dishsoap like Dawn or Palmolive to get all of the stuff off and then use some metal polish.
Are the wheels, painted, coated, aluminum, chrome?

They are silver OZ Ultrallegera's, which I believe are painted with a clear coat.

I'll try to get pictures up so you all can see what I'm talking about.
