    ECU question (modded A4)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I Just bought a new 2004 1.8t , full equip, 6 speed, sun roof, bose system, s4 brake upgrade and everything.

The reason why i bought this car is that i have another a4 2002 (base model w/o sunroof, 5 speed instead of 6 speed, and doesnt have rear heated seat or any of these cool stuff the new one had !). But the 2002 a4 had frankenturbo/exhaust/tuned stage 2+ unitronic ECU, 440 green giant injector, custom made fmic (good quality, buy nice or buy twice !!.. i bought twice but learned from my mistake ), 007 DV, coilspack upgrade, carbonio intake, forge TIP, complete exhaust upgrade.

Recently i had problem with my oilpan (lowered car ) witch result into a near blown engine (compression 150,100,100,25 .... damaged ring + burnt cylinder number 4) I told near because it still running on 3 cylinder but ... not for long

I've been running this set-up for now almost 5 years without any issues so i want to swap the entire thing in the new one. (dought sent me a new turbo heart after they made the revision.. no sceal issues at all)

My question is the following: will i have any issue swaping the 02 ECU into the 04 car ? the 04 engine has the AMB code and i think the early 02 was an awm engine but im not sure, need to check the 02 but if it doesnt matter i would like to know (the 02 audi is now 300km away from my place, at my parent place ... )

is there anything else i need to swap to make it work with the ECU or the computer should be okay ??

thanks in advance for your answers, also if you have any tips that could avoid me problem swapping the whole thing it would be appreciated to know !!

There will likely be problems trying to adapt the '02 ECU into the '04. There are several differences in details like the vehicle road speed sensor vs. road speed via ABS and CAN, and other aspects. The '02 was somewhat unique with regards to details like this. It will be a lot easier to flash the '04 ECU with the tuned files needed by the hardware swap upgrade.

everything will swap over mechanically upgrade wise. That ECU will not work unless it is IMMO defeated, 02 had a few other differences also. Otherwise, get someone to tune the ECU in the car now.

The 2002 ECU is different from the others. It's one where it didn't always take flash loaded tunes and required reprogramming the chip directly. You'll be better off getting the '04 ECU upgraded to support everything else you're bringing over from the other car. Yeah, it sucks that it will cost more, but will save you a lot of headaches hunting down compatibility issues.

I would talk to whoever tuned your 02 and ask if you can get a deal on tuning the 04 ecu. They may have requests like send in the 02 ecu, they may want to keep it, but they will probably cut you a deal on tuning the 04 ecu

I talked with unitronic, seem's like they cannot do anything about it .. I'm thinking about switching from uni to another company since the frankenturbo isnt running that well with uni flash !! I might have some research to do since now it has been a while since frankenturbo are selling great ! I might get a well adapted chip for those set-up !!

Look into going to Motoza for a tune that is custom fit to your setup. Great customer support.
