Bilstein B8 struts with OEM springs? 1.8t

Wondering if it's counter productive to install Bilstein B8 struts with oem springs? The B8 are designed for lowering and the B6 are designed for stock ride height. But when I think about it, the B8 is a newer design and could it not accommodate an oem spring and keep stock ride height? Winters in MN make lowering a horrible idea.

I think I will lose something like an inch at most? and the strut may be somewhat preloaded with the oem spring?

I'm guessing the ride may be harsher with better handling?

from my reading it looks like the B6 and B8 are the same with no difference in valving, the only difference is the B8 is shorter to accommodate a lowering spring. You can still use a lowering spring on a B6 for 20 something milometers. I think a stock spring with a B8 shock would add preload and also slightly lower the ride height. Which would be a nice cheap way to go lower with a quality shock. But it wouldn't be adjustable, just far far cheaper than a adjustable setup.

Looks like the B6 with stock spring would be just a quality OE setup, would probably have a better ride?

There about the same price, anything I'm not thinking of?

if you're running OEM springs (sport or non), I can't think of a good reason not to run the Kodi FSDs. I'm not sure what Bilstein did with the valving on the B6/B7 shocks, but it's pretty harsh compared to the B5 running the same setup, and having run at least a dozen suspension setups over the years, I just can't recommend them.

Oem b6/b7 are bilstein? I agree the 2.8 b5 I drove once was a better ride than b6
