    Community Diagnosis - stumped on 2011 Q5 2.0t with timing-related issues

My wife's car has been going apeshit recently, and no idea what's causing the camshaft codes. I replaced all the coils, and spark plugs, to get the misfires to stop.

Dealership diagnosed as needing a new camshaft sensor. Checked and ran the camshaft sensor on another 2.0t engine, and it ran fine for 50 miles with zero codes thrown. Still has a hard time turning over every 3rd or 4th start. Completely random.

Any ideas on what to check next?

Possible camshaft positioner problem. I've heard they can fail. I'm not sure how to test it tho.

i had the camshaft position sensor pulled, put into another 2.0t car, and it ran fine without causing any errors. is that the part you're thinking?

For anyone still following along, we had a couple of issues. Dealt with all of them.

    - Stage 2 oil consumption. Replaced pistons, rings.
    - clip on the turbo wastegate to keep it open
    - replace camshaft, bank 1
    - replace spark plugs
    - replace coil packs

did not replace the camshaft position sensor, nor did i do anything with the crank sensor. running like a champ.

Check the camshaft position adjustor solenoid (sits on the front of the intake cam, the thing with the electrical connector on the front of the black plastic upper timing chain cover. Sometimes it is the oil-control plunger that is behind the adjustor solenoid, called the "3/4 Valve" (or maybe "3/4 Actuator".....not sure). These sometimes stick and then the Intake Cam adjustment does not respond correctly, and the computer flags this as one of the DTCs you have. These can get stickey if you don't change the oil often enough.
