P0299 back after GFB DV+ install

    Hey guys,
Went through a couple of other threads on this and saw the next couple of things to look at are the MAF and Wastegate. Before I spend any time guessing between the two I have a few extra symptoms. I also am losing coolant at a slow rate (throw some in reservoir every 2 weeks or so). No coolant in the oil or anything. Also I've noticed with the new DV+ installed I'm getting the code back more frequently. Could this point to the wastegate/turbo? Seeing as the DV+ holds boost pressure better than stock could this be throwing a more frequent code for that?

Ive some threads about the GFB DV+ throwing a soft code for it. I think they the original spring from the stock DV to eliminate that code from coming back

Id the coolant flange at the back of the cylinder head for signs of leakage. Its a common failure in the 2.0T's

It is my understanding that you have to use this with a stock diverter valve. Just making sure you did this. Since your latest post made it seem like you didnt...

Yes you have to separate the DV then install these components. That is done

Could a bad N75 cause this?

Your gonna have to Vag-com this to get the actual data instead of a generic code reader

that code is low boost pressure right? try replacing the air filter. if the code comes back it could be a waste gate issue.

I got that code several time. Pulled my dv off and it had exploded. Came out in three pieces. Replaced that and the car has been happy

IIRC, that's an under boost code. I would be checking the waste gate for play.

It happens because the computer isnt used to the snappiness of the diverter valve and noting "that something isnt normal." If you remove the top spring the gfb will act as a normal dv and the code will go away, but wont hold boost as well as before. Im assuming the car isnt going limp mode ?

It will hold boost exactly the same, gfb says that, and I got no code.

That code is overboost I'm sure

I think I need to invest time into the wastegate, it is definitely underboost and it seems that the boost is actually fluctuating and then dropping off to about 9psi. Same symptoms before and after the DV was replaced, the DV+ shouldve done something at least for the fluctuation and drop off. And yes the DV+ is definitely in correctly. Going to replace the air filter cause i need to anyway before anything crazy. I guess if its the wastegate we'll be going K04 sooner than later

Waste gate is pretty easy to check. Just grab it and see if it has any play. It should be snug and not move when you push it side to side. If you were up looking at the DV, you were almost there. Just make sure the engine is cold, obviously.

Definitely some noticeable play in the waste gate. I guess now is as good a time as any for a K04

If you need to get by, used turbos come up from time to time for ~$200. Otherwise, JHM just released their stage 3 kit for $4000. I'm not 100% sure of the cost for a K04, but after tuning, fueling ect, you might be close.

I actually am stage 1+ through Unitronic. Initially I was going to go to stage 2+ come summer all this really does is speed that up, I'm half way there with components (S3 injectors on the way as well as FMIC.) The Stasis system is here already and the down pipe and test pipe on the way. Soon Ill order the K04 and JHM HPFP kit and just go all the way. I'm really happy with Unitronic for now and the shop that does it is extremely local lol plus 150 for the upgrade since I am already tuned through them.
