    Should I Sell B5 a4 1.8T & Get B6 S4

    Ok here's the story.

I have a clean high mileage (205k) A4 I have owned this car for 5 years and it is very reliable.

A co-work has offered to sell me his 04 late build B6 S4 164,000 miles. Timing belt + clutch was done at 132,000

Would be happy to get 210-225k miles out of the S4.

    Price $4500
    awe exhaust w/tune
    Body 8/10
    Interior 9/10

This is someone I trust and don't think he's trying to pull anything.

So I would be selling my a4 and using the s4 for a Daily
Gas mileage is not a concern.

    Should I take the plunge??
    All input welcome.

If you don't mind the decreased gas millage and the increased maintenance costs, Id say go for it!

I assume you meant timing chain not belt?

If the timing chain has in fact been completed, then yes pull the trigger. Thats a hell of a deal.

I came from a heavily modified B5 1.8t that was my pride and joy, but there really isn't anything I miss. My B6 is a decent amount slower, and can often feel like a pig compared to the B5 because of the weight difference. But otherwise, it wins hands down in every other category, especially exhaust note and the interior (huge upgrade over the B5).

Like others have said, maintenance costs will be higher. I do my own work and have already found this engine to be much harder to work on than the 1.8t, but thats a given. Only other thing to ask about it oil consumption, do a compression test if possible.

Yes I meant timing chain.I asked about Oil consumption today and was told it uses about 1 quart every 2000 miles. I will post a picture when/if I purchase.

Probably needs valve stem seals. But what v8 German vehicle doesnt? Sounds more than fair if he can go into detail about the timing. And what was replaced.

Gas mileage is no joke - when I get 21 mpg I'm super stoked. I feel like my car pours some gas out for all the S4s that are no longer on the road..

That awkward moment when he is talking about gas and not engine oil. (Insert multiple flames and troll faces)

Mine went from 1 qt ever 3000 miles to 1 qt every 400 miles, and if you go on a road trip (let's say 600 miles one way) you will consume oil like gas lol. Great cars, mine is immaculate, but after doing chains and guides 10k miles ago and now the oil drinking problem I am getting ready to either throw a stage 3 2.7 in there or throw it in the back of the house and move on. My B5S4 with 160k rough miles has been way more reliable.
